i can understand the value of having a fence.
when i lived in a apt. i had just 2 shelties. because of no yard, we had walks and walks. so they were always leashed ( unless in large safe place to run)
now that i have a house, and fenced in yards, still they do not go outside without me or where i can see them, my backyard in a cedar fence 6 ft high and concert under it, so can't dig. when they are out, back door open and i am close by. my front yard is chainlink, and they are only allowed in front if i am in the front yard.
someone once said shelties are like 5 yr old kids, albeit a very smart 5 yr old. and i would not allow any 5 yr old kid to be unsupervied.
and if a sheltie saw a squirrell to chase, 9 out of 10 would chase it..
