The PAIN is oh so real. I am still very raw over loosing my Sheltie of 14 years just 2 months ago. I have to say, I have lit a candle in my home EVERYDAY since her passing. I am devistated! It is very TOUGH to get through and unless you have been through it you DO NOT understand. She was the love of my life. She was my friend! She was my little shadow! She went everywhere with me. As sad as I feel I know she is out of pain and in a better place. She is there with her mom, dad and her big brother. She gave me 14 wonderful years! What more could I ask for?
We have decided to get a new pup. Emmy (my 14 yr old) would have wanted it that way! She knew how much love I had to give. She knew how happy I was with a dog. The thought of the new pup has helped me to focus on something besides the pain. It has given me new life. And my old girl would have wanted it that way.
Do not think that for a moment that you could have changed a thing. We all know that when it is our time...It is our time. We never know when that time will come. Spend it happy! Get a pup and share that love that the dog you lost would want you to. make new memories. Do it for the memory of your old dog. God bless you hun! I can feel your pain.
You won't regret deciding to get a new pup. When Timber died 1 year ago, I said that I would not get another Sheltie, as he could never be "replaced". That decision lasted about 3 days....I found I could not bear coming home to an empty house. I started looking at other breeds (Poms, King Charles Spaniels, Miniature American Eskimo....but it was no contest....I'm in love with Shelties, period!) 1 month later, I was bringing home 8 week old Bacca!
The pain does ease, but the memories never go away. They might not be with you physically, but they'll be in your heart forever.
