Pomeranian Has Moved In

I had posted a couple of weeks age that my nephew was moving and was probably not going to be able to take his Pomeranian with him. I was hoping that they could find a home for him before they left but no luck there. It was me or the animal shelter so I am now the proud and reluctant owner of a Pomeranian.

We have been to the vet because of course he had no shots at all and have an appointment at the groomers on next Wednesday because he is sadly in need of a good grooming. I did do some brushing on him tonight to try and get some of the mats out and found he's pretty good about the brush but hates the scissors. He's already peed on the corner of my sofa so he's spent most of the evening tied to me. I just let him in from outside and he snarled at me when I tried to tie him back up so now he's in time out in the kennel. I hope it doesn't take him long to realize that the game has changed and there are rules here.

Things have gone well with Fergus and Baxter accepting him. They all seem to get along. Baxter just ignores him and he and Fergus played a little. So far so good there.

Wish me luck I think I'm going to need it.

Meet Toby the devil dog.

Sue, that sounds like a tough spot you are in. I'm glad that the pups have accepted Toby. I hope that he turns his attitude around quickly once he realizes that he can no longer get away with his inappropriate behavior.

Well from Toby's perspective its Xmas! Its obvious he is going to a much better home, but what a challenge for you. I hope the nephew doesnt decide in a years time he wants his dog back.

So many of these toy dogs do get spoilt and it goes to their head. I hope you get on ok with him once he settles in. Perhaps an obedience class might be useful to help him bond with you and realise you are in charge?

We had a Pom years ago with our first three Shelties. The Pom taught them all to bark...they were fairly mellow in barking terms until he moved in. My mom always wanted a Pomeranian and found a puppy one day so I volunteered to take him and house train him for her since she was in her 70s. Two years later, we were still training and he was ours. :uhoh:

Foxy lived with us until he died at 14 and always had an attitude. He was convinced he was really a Husky. He once tried to take on the German Shepherd next door.

They can be great little dogs but tough love is required. I wish you lots of luck! Hopefully Fergus and Baxter will help train him.

Thanks everybody. He spent last night in a crate and did very well. I had contacted Baxter's rescue when I found out he probably would need a home. It is a sheltie rescue but she does occasionally place other breeds. Hallelujah! I got a message this morning that she may have an adopter for him. I was honest and explained his issues so I hope the prospective adopter will be willing to take on the challenge. Please everybody cross you fingers and send up some prayers that this works out!

Sophie he's already been to obedience class. My nephews wife flunked.:rolleyes2:

Oh boy, Toby is a cute little devil. Good luck. Having foster dogs through my house I can tell you it can be a lot of work to turn a dog around who's had no training! Luckily, most of my fosters did not have "attitude" on top of it.
Let us know what happens. Poms can be really nice dogs. Hopefully someone will adopt him.

He is adorable..but then, I don't have to live with him! Hang in there -- I have a feeling. that once you explain the rules of the road, he's going to do just fine.

I hope things work out with the rescue ... but if not, and he stays with you... I wish you the best of luck in teaching him the "house rules". It may be easier in that you have 2 guys there who already know the rules. Toby might start to comply just to be part of the gang :smile2:
