Pomeranian Has Moved In

Tobey is very cute. He looks like a bigger Pom.

There is a part of me that would like to get a Pom. It is right there beside the part that would like to get a JRT. I think that is the crazy I want a challenge part.:smile2: Good luck with Tobey hopefully he'll fit in soon.

Toby is very big for a Pom. I was shocked when he weighed in at 17#. He is about as tall as Fergus (13") but a lot shorter in length. My vet says his weight is fine but I think he's pudgy and could lose a couple of pounds. Right now I'm transitioning him from the food they had him on(Ol' Roy yuck) ASAP and then we'll work on losing a little.

If you got a Pom like Toby it would definitely be a challenge.

Yuck is right!!! :dead: A good friend of mine, who is a CRAZY dog lover, feeds that stuff to her dog. (in addition to Beneful) I totally don't get it!! Each to his own, I guess. :confused2:

Well Toby has been here for two weeks now and I thought it might be time for an update.

Toby has made a lot of progress in just two weeks. I'm so proud of him. He's doing so well I don't think Devil Dog applies anymore. He came here a hyper, barking, totally insane dog. He's calmed down so much I can't even believe it's him!

There has not been a potty accident since the second day he was here. He is housebroken and I think he always was. He comes to me does what I call his potty dance and then runs to the door. I have no idea why his former owners did not see this he's not subtle about it. Hmmmm not paying attention do you think? I do not even crate him anymore when I leave the house.

His aggression is almost nonexistent. The only time I may have a problem is when I'm doing something he thinks he doesn't have to do, still has a tendency to think he's the one in control. He gives a lip curl and I know he's had enough. I don't push him any further so he doesn't have to snap at me. There's been no snapping in a week or more. We're still working on it but I'm grateful we are making progress.

He's even better about grooming. He always was OK with brushing but will even let me do a little snipping with the scissors. This would not have been possible just two weeks ago.

He plays well with Fergus. They play tug and wrestle like crazy. I think Fergus is enjoying having him here, another dog with his energy level. Baxter still ignores him for the most part but they are starting to play tug once in awhile.

I got another e-mail from the rescue and she is still going to try to help me rehome him. The way he is right now I would keep him but I'm not really financially able to have another dog. Vet bills for two are quite enough for me to handle.

His former owners (my nephew & wife)have called some member of the family daily since they left and it really upsets me that they have never even asked how he is doing. I guess that gives some explanation of why he was the way he was. On the rare occasions that I have left my dogs I have called the sitter daily to find out if everything is OK. Guess I must be crazy.

I knew he could do it!! :biggrin2:

I'm glad to hear that he's coming around. Even if his stay with you is temporary, you're doing a wonderful thing in making him more "homeable" for someone else. It sounded like he was a real piece of work to begin with... and now he's a well-mannered little guy. Kudos to you!!!

Quite resiliant little guys Those Poms, and a lot smarter then most give them credit for. Glad to hear that things are getting much better with the devel dog

gee just think what he might be like in a month.:smile2:

That's how we aquired the rocketman, he was a puppy mill rescue, and was pretty much a basket case when it came to possible adoption ect, so we took him as a foster, till he could get squared away, end of story he never left.:wink2:

Thanks we're trying very hard. He's not 100% but so much better than he was. I think in the right home he'll be just fine.

I knew he was a smart little guy but the turn around in such a short time is amazing. Oh and I've changed my signature. He's not listed as Toby Devil dog anymore.
