Potty Signs

I was wondering what signs does your puppers give for you to let him out to go potty. Darcy kinda is developing his sign. Sometimes I catch it and sometimes I don't.

When Sadie was a pup and still learning she's sniff and circle before going on the floor.

Now she will whine and/or go to the door when she wants out.

Marlie and Zoe will bark or whine at the door if they need out. Rasha came to me from a breeder and I have a feeling that she was in a kennel most of the time. She won't do anything but just decide to go where ever. She has gotten better about that. I usually just make sure that they are all let out often to avoid accidents!

Spencer's leash hangs from a hook beside the door leading to the backyard. When he wants to go out, he nudges the leash which makes a noise (which my ears are finely attuned to of course). And if my ears fail to hear the leash noise, he whines. Of course half the time he wants to go out to play - not to potty.

We have taught our two 5 1/2 month old puppies to ring a bell when they need to go outside. So far it has worked great!

We had that problem when we trained Layla to ring the sleigh bells to go potty. When she figured out that it really meant "outside," it sounded like Christmas morning all day long!!

If my guys want to go outside, they will come and stare at me, but stand far enough away that I can't pet them (if they come close enough to pet, it means they just want some lovin'). I'll then ask "do you have to go outside?", and if they do they will run to the backdoor. If they don't run to the back door, then they don't need out, they just want something else (usually food  )

Ditto with me.

He will also park himself at the back door and whine.

When Bacca was a little younger, he would sniff and circle.
