Yesterday was the worst day for our little family. Our sweet 8.5 year old, Rocky, was taken to the neurologist to examine his lame front leg. The neurologist, Dr. S, did a physical examination and narrowed it down to what most likely is a nerve sheath tumor in Rocky's spine near the neck. She informed us that the prognosis in this case is not good, as surgery is difficult to get clean margins if a tumor is near the spine and recurrence usually almost always occurs. They quickly took him away to run tests and do some lab work. He was about to go in for an MRI, but the scanner was broken, so we left and made the long trip home. The MRI was rescheduled for Monday. Until then, no official diagnosis.
We are devastated and completely heartbroken. We're trying to be hopeful and maybe a miracle will happen, but reality is starting to settle in that this may be our fate... I am in tears as I write this. Rocky is my boy, my first and only child. I will never understand why bad things happen to good dogs, or to any innocent animal for that matter. All we ask is prayers for my sweet boy, we need a miracle to happen...
