Puppy Mills!

Even if you dont have a lot of money (like me) go down to your local SPCA and spend some time with the animals ... our local SPCA loves when people come down to play with the dogs/cats...(at least they feel special for a little while).
I know it is hard to see them like that but an hour of petting and love can go a long way in a dogs/cats life.

( a little off topic... i know)
 
I agree. I go every other Saturday,to our local shelter here.I know every person there is also a vounteer.
Whether it be cleaning kennels,or feeding,or just taking a moment to walk the dogs,I know it is uplifting to know maybe it made them feel better.

This shelter is a high kill shelter,no money,lack of volunteers.During the week it is watched over by the local police dept.& also incarcerated men at the small jail that is in the county.

No, way on topic! I'm trying to figure out tonight how to start to give back with more than just money.

This thing hit me hard and I realized that I've got a hole to fill....I've been in tortoise-state for too long....

WOW ... the iorny of men locked up caring for the caged/lost animals is striking. Hopefully both the prisoners and the animals are equally rewarded and inspiried/changed from the contact. I firmly believe that having contact with animals makes you a better person; kinder, more open and giving, tender.

But it makes you wonder what happened to the "humans" who run the PM's? What must have gone wrong in their upbringing to make that acceptable? I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

I give a thumbs up to your community shelter that tries it's best. Although I can't stand kill facilities, I know that all too often then is no other options ... that makes me sick too.

In PA they say a lot of the Puppy Mills are run by the Amish.. they view pups and dogs as any other livestock and treat them as such.. if ya watch the youtube vids I posted you see a lot of Amish involved. A different way of life i guess....

I just received a free vid from them and it was about how GOD expects us (humans) to take care of his animals and not to abuse them.


1 million chickens an hour are killed for food in the US everyday... THIS totally shocked me !!!
 
PeTA in a suit? No thank you. These people spend so little money on actual animals. Much of their money is spent on lobbyists and pensions, and they are doing everything they can to stop all animal use. This includes pets, assistance dogs, working dogs, police dogs, meat animals, hunting, fishing, research, etc.

Please don't give them any money or support them in any way. They are not associated in any way with your local shelters, they are not an umbrella organization, they DO NOT handle animals directly. They collect money for natural disasters and then keep it for themselves, ala the famous Katrina case. They collected money for Michael Vick's dogs, who they did not have custody of nor did they pay any part of. Actually they recommended that all those dogs be euthanized.

Donate to your local shelters or breed rescues instead, the people on the ground who are actually doing something. Sheltie rescue is always looking for foster homes.

There is nothing wrong with animal welfare and human responsibility, and we should all support that, but HSUS promotes neither of those things.

Hmmmm.... this is just a scam too??? THank YOu for the info... i thought they were "helping the animal" i was watching some of the vids of them rescuing puppy from a puppy mill.


I dont know what organizations are "good" and what are not so good.I am in the learning stage.. so I wont be offended if someone points me in the right direction.


But if they are what you say they are... i dont want to contribute to that.I dont give money to any organizations except my local no kill SPCA.( well i buy them food and treats more than i give $$) and i spend some time just petting or loving the animals there. I want them to feel loved even if it just for a little while .. but there are a lot of people that come to help feed...play....clean up .
 
I'd be careful about following the HSUS. They are animal rights activists... the same sorts as PETA. You may want to research what you're supporting. They are not like the local humane societies who actually help animals. These are the folks pushing through radical animal laws with the eventual goal of there being no pet ownership whatsoever. A very tiny portion of the donations that go to the HSUS actually go to supporting the care of animals. More goes to HSUS higher ups pension plans than to animal care.

There are local humane societies who are actually changing their names, as they are not associated with the HSUS. They do not recieve funds from the HSUS, and do not want to be lumped in with them. HSUS is a convenient name, as most people believe, like you, that they are like the local humane societies and actually help animals, when they don't (http://humanewatch.org/index.php/site/post/nationwide_poll_7_out_of_10_americans/). This is no mistake... they want people to continue to believe they are part of the local humane societies, and are actually helping animals, when they are not.
