Yes I’d do something Similar with Piper and Finnie….the vet clinic is maybe 5 minutes by car from my place and a 15 minute walk. Prior to Covid we would go in there every week just to get a weight on them during our walk (big step on scale in the front office). I don’t walk that way so much anymore, Covid got me out of the habit lol.
 
so first day went well, although at was a short one. he slept for the first 2 hours, woke up to look out the window for a bit, then started playing with a toy.
we got to visit fort Ross (doggies were allowed everywhere! wasn't expecting that and just topped by to get info for later) and salt point (doggies not allowed much but it was so windy Pico didn't mind).

Hotel room had a mirror on the wall, so Pico wanted to play with the sheltie in the mirror. thankfully no barking yet. He was a bit alerted last night with all the hotel noises, but he settled down eventually. we are right off highway 1 (like 75 feet, the ocean is right there-and the cliff!) the attached restaurant had some workers that LOVED playing with Pico so he was a very happy pup yesterday. this morning he has been stealing my socks non-stop LOL.

Today is a lot more driving (maybe 6 hours) so we will see how we do. No cell coverage where we are, and wifi isn't so good, so stops aren't planned yet beyond pt arena.
 
surprised how little cell service I got today. none in northern sonoma. bigger cities in mendocino would have it (for like 5 minutes).
nothing when highway 1 left the coast (and no call boxes on the freeway either...hmm). and in del norte, only in eureka and crescent City.

My SIL asked me to install life360. so she can see where I am. I can check in from wifi at night like last night. and I checked in on the CA coast whenever I could find service (like at ft.ross). as a single woman, I always said that people wouldn't remember me but they would remember Gavin (and now Pico). shelties are so unusual here and Pico gets soo many 'love your dog' and 'cute dog' every day all over the place.

pico is having a great time. he LOVES meeting people. He made a buddy last night with an older Pacific Islander guy who worked at the hotel restaurant. and then we saw him this morning before leaving. and he just loves meeting people all over the place. like he could care less about just about everything if there are people to greet.

he was really good sleeping for me all day (I got him out twice in the morning for hikes...Pt. arena and ft.bragg). he is terrible at posing for pictures though.
 
Sounds like he is behaving beautifully and representing Sheltie-dom well! :)
He's gotten so dark now, what a handsome boy. Interesting that he's so outgoing. None of mine have been that friendly with strangers.

Good idea about the checking in; my hubby has some satellite device that he gets service for when he goes on off road motorcycle camping trips in the boonies, so he can let me know he's still alive.
