Should the person posting this turn out to be the breeder, that's a different story. There is no mention of this being the poster's new litter, or having any ownership of these pups at all.

Any breeder is more than welcome to post litter information on this forum. All they must do is meet the requirements. We don't believe that is asking too much...the requirements are far from unreasonable. We've set them for good reason, and we will continue to enforce them, even if that is unpopular with some.

Talking about puppies in "general" is OK - even if you are a breeder. Direct references, links or discussion to puppies you have available is not permitted outside the proper forum.

So far this thread does not appear to be anything other than a color conversation. If this turns out to be not the case, then the moderators will deal with it & the member in question. (Although I'm sure many of you will alert us anyway! )

The key thing to remember here is "general" discussion is always permitted & encouraged.

in the first pic it looks like 2 sables, sable merle, and bi black. In the second pic of the merle it looks like a blue merle so not sure if its the lighting or camera flash that makes it look blue or if it really is blue.

Why? It's an acceptable color, and it can be very gorgeous.

I agree...why? Nothing wrong with a sable merle! Perfectly healthy and beautiful dogs.

Why? As long as they are ID'd as such on their papers, and the new owners know it's a merle, it's all good. What you should be worried about are the sable puppies who DON'T look like they are merled, but could be, in theory. At least the smerle is recognizable.

Yes I agree,as it is obvious now that Jasper is a sable merle.

exactly, its the BYB who dont know what they are breeding and producing and calling them sable and than they are bred and you produce so catastrophic results!
And there are some sable merles that are produced that unless you know better would think they are sables. Heck look at "Tanner"

No, you are absolutely correct. Any dog with a merle parent can hypothetically have not enough merle gene to show it, but enough to pass and produce merles (or doubles). However, since the merle gene acts more visibly on black hair than it does on brown hair, you are just more likely to be able to tell a "cryptic" black merle than a "cryptic" sable merle.

The merle gene is tricky. It's not a binary gene, meaning on or off. It's more like a sliding scale. There are some people (the lady who directed "Pedigree Dogs Exposed being one) who would like to see merles bred out of dogs completely.
