Rash on Snout

Does he roll those food dispensing balls? Meggies snout looked that way when I used to give her one. It left as soon as I took the ball away, I felt bad she loved it. She also didn't act like it was there.

No, he doesn't have one. Milo doesn't play with any toys.

Since he finished the round of antibiotics the rash went away and the fur has grown back. I guess it was some weird bacterial infection.

Late to this post, sure am glad that Milo is better. Our shelties sure do get some wierd ailments.

What do you suppose caused this? I know once my sheltie girl Harper had a nasty infection and the vet said it might be caused by scratching after having stepped in poop. I keep a pretty clean yard but sometimes those little poops sneak up on you.

I know how much you love your Mom's dog, like one of your own and am so happy with the outcome.

Hugs,
Kate

New Rash On Belly

My mother called me yesterday to say she noticed a really nasty rash on Milo's belly. I've never seen anything like this, it does look very sore even though he doesn't bother with it.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I thought it kind of resembles ringworm, but not quite. Dawns2shelties said it reminds her of staph.

I noticed that Milo definitely still has impacted anal glands too. This is a problem he had for the first time a couple of months ago. He smells and his rectum looks inflamed and sore. I had thought this problem had cleared up but apparently my mom hadn't been giving it the attention it needed.

I'm worried about him. He's always been super healthy. I wonder if there's some other underlying problem? Milo otherwise acts like his usual self. :confused2:

Kind of reminds me of when my mother's maltese had a food allergy. She had a crusty rash on her belly & swollen red skin around her lips. The vet kept prescribing antibiotics, steroid, medicated wipes, etc, but that only gave her temporary relief.

Finally I suggest changing her food just to see what would happen. After years of eating chicken based kibble, we switched her to limited ingredient lamb kibble and it cleared up.

Thanks for the info! I mentioned a possible food allergy to my Mom too. Milo has been on his current food, Wellness Core (the fish one) for a little over a year.

Milo has a vet appointment tomorrow afternoon, I guess we'll see what the vet says.

Our vet and the dermatologist never suggested switching her food. They only asked what she ate, which was Wellness.

Definitely see what the vet says first, but if medication only works temporarily and tests are inclusive, it doesn't hurt to see if it is food related.

Good luck to Milo & keep us updated!
