Well, yesterday I come home from work and instead of immediately walking the girls, I did some random things in the house. At one point, the girls alerted to something outside - Ally actually growled which I've only heard a couple of times. I kinda wondered what was up but they settled back down, altho very alert.
Hubby comes home shortly after, and says,. "What's going on down the street? There's cops, an ambulance and animal control stuffing a pit bull into their truck!"
WTH?? So I go running out, and find that a pitbull has attacked a neighbor's old dog and also her. They were walking along and the dog came rushing across the street from a connecting street.
This dog had attacked another neighbor's toy fox terrier about a month ago, the dog really ran up some vet bills and had lots of abscesses, etc. If my neighbor hadn't grabbed the pit by the collar and lifted him, his terrier would have been toast. He did call animal control to report it and gave the owner the vet bills - nothing happened.
Turns out, the lady attacked yesterday had been attacked by the same dog earlier, only hadn't reported it (?!!?).
So thankful I wasn't the one walking down the street with my two gentle and shy girls - I don't know what I would have done but I would have defended my dogs with everything I have.
So this is the third attack - I don't say this lightly because I am involved in rescue, but there is no place in this world for that dog. It needs to be put to sleep. It is in 10 day quarantine right now. My first neighbor was going to call the animal control supervisor to complain - if they had addressed this issue right away, this last attack could have been prevented.
Boy, I sure don't want to walk down my own street in fear! There are lots of dogs here, and this has never been an issue before. It's just crazy. The owners are morons of the first degree. I suggested the lady who was bitten (her arm had numerous bite wounds) find out who the landlord is of the home and go after him for allowing a tenant with a dangerous dog. Obviously the owners aren't about to do anything to contain their dog; nor would I trust them to do so.
