I stopped by the vet to do an annual heartworm and tick test and blood work, and we were also suppose to pick up new heartworm preventative medication to start... But what I feared from reading about the Norvartis plant shutting down... was true here too. My vet had run out of Sentinel (but didn't bother to tell me before I made the trip).. sigh. They only have two alternatives available: Revolution and Trifexis
I wanted to ask here before making a decision.... between only 1) Revolution, tropical med that includes tick coverage, with 2 ) Trifexis (?), first year in Canada, only supplied as a temporary oral replacement to Sentinal..... What did you all think? I'm hesitant about both, and hate changes in medication for my dog... Pudding's new vet the last month before she passed, who we went for a second opinion, put her on Revolution (our first and only time we tried it, only 1 administration, I don't know why still they didn't keep her on Sentinel seeing it should have been on her file) and applied the medication on her fur/shoulder. Maybe it's just the series of events but that with all the problems she had, I just dont feel comfortable using something that may or may not have escalated her problems those last few days. She passed about exactly a week after that vet visit - the only change from before she passed was that Revolution. And Trifexis, I hear on the forum a lot of dogs vomiting, Precious is so little.... sigh, I'm just so scared and don't know what to use.
Ideally I would like something that covers Ticks as we will be at a cottage (our first with any dog) planned for AUGUST. It's only for a week but still. Melissa (OntarioSheltie) suggested tick collars but when I mentioned it to my vet they said they pretty much don't work and I should use Revolution in that case, rather than adding pesticides? I went home with out any medications because I wanted time to think about my options..... please, any suggestions, advice, recommendations..... Please, let me know your thoughts.
