Sentinel Replacement Suggestions?

I always prefer more natural/less toxic ways for anything and really appreciate you sharing this with me. I'll definitely be doing this for sure! You're so knowledgeable and am so thankful for all your advice :o

Ps, I recall you said "when you used to use Revolution", would you mind me asking what you use now??
 
we got 3 months of Trifexis for the immediate future.
I do have some Interceptor left and I have used Comfortis- just didn't want to use it every month if they didn't really need it.
but I have seen fleas since March so figured we'd be using both meds this summer anyway.
I have always given the Comfortis pill in their dinners so did the same with the Trifexis. no problems so far...

Two of my dogs have a neurological disorder that prevents me from giving them any type of medicines that are toxic. I have another dog that doesn't have any bad reactions, but we don't give her any because we have found other things to work that are less harmful, in my opinion.

We treat our yard with diatamacious earth.
We bathe them (usually) weekly with a mixture of Dr. Bronner's Soap, neem oil, and almond oil.
We spray them, ourselves, and the yard with the mixture I told you about daily. We use eucalyptus, tea tree, neem, and citronella in the mix I mentioned before, but that's because we are combating fleas, too.
We also add apple cider vinegar to their water.
I am not certain, but I believe it helps, we feed them a raw diet so their body has to give less energy to digesting and in return are healthier.
I usually wash their bedding in hot water every two weeks, too.

I haven't had fleas in about 16 months --fingers crossed! :fl I've seen a few ticks, but I haven't since I added the spray. The spray is new (like two weeks ago) but it's working great!

Wowie, that sounds GREAT! Very inspirational and truly amazing! I didn't realize there was so much you could do like this, less 'harmfully'! I've read your tips here and there in other threads, but writing it out all like that...... just wow :) :fl
 
My Beau had been using sentinel as well and had no problems, this month however, the vets office ran out of the sentinel and I had to give him revolution. I was a little worried at first but there was no reactions to it.

I just called the vet and they said they are getting restocked with the sentinel as we speak, so hopefully everyone else' vet will soon be restocked as well.

Update

I wanted to see if it was possible to inquire from other neighboring vet clinics if they had my Sentinel for Precious' weight available. A long shot but worth while to ask I thought. All the BIG hospitals were out and only had large ones left. My friend did most of the research and calling around for me while I was at work and... she found this small place. They do have in stock, and they do have six months worth. But after I finished work and got to talk to her, to find out more, she said the person on the phone was a bit shady. I asked if it was a vet tech and she said it was the vet himself on the phone with her. Shady in the sense that it was too easy and he kept replying like " OOO SURE OF COURSE WE HAVE IT, COME COME COME, FOR SURE WE'LL HAVE IT ON HOLD FOR YOU (but never bothered to take down her name), WE HAVE IT WE HAVE IT". Not really professional like the other places she called. It seems to be a small business, no fax, no land line business phone (aka, the contact number for the business is a cell phone). Their website is pretty low-grade, and their rating link to a vets rank/rating seems to be somewhat fraudulent, most likely written by himself or his staff. But there were two reviewers that seemed like actual clients that said what I've written above and further articulated that the man, while sure provides affordable services, was a business man. He tried to suck money out of you and give you thinks you didn't need. But he got the job done and so the people rated him 3/5.

MY brain alarms went off and I told my friend how she thought this WASN'T shady, after hearing the entire story... but I guess I wanted to ask all the adults here...... What are your thoughts on possibly getting the medications from this place, if I'm not there to be a regular client. One time payment, just for 6 months worth of heartworm medications?? Would never see the guy ever again, I don't need to have 'good service' or need other 'sale pitches'. If he can give me what I need, is that good enough? But then again... if this man is shady as I already think of him, is there a chance the medication itself might be tainted? Is there a way to verify they weren't tampered with, to make sure he gets it from a legal legit place, that the product is what he says it is? Is there any kind of license to ask to see... AH So yah, what if it's not even the right ones?! What if he switches them? What if they're fake? Maybe I thinking too much into it but small places scare me. I'm sure it's making enough money to be up and running as a business but I don't know.... Then my heart goes back to the vet I know and trust and have been with for a long time... But the only options they have are revolution and trifexis.. I inquired further and they do have Heartguard. Some other places phoned had Advantax? and Inceptor? Bleh, I'm in a bigger mes than before and don't know what to do... Maybe I should just not try to look for prescriptions at other clinics and just try out the revolution....... =/ Decisions decisions... BLAH :gaah

Run, do not walk, as far and as fast as you can. Your gut instinct sounds right. Most vet clinics will not prescribe a medication for a dog they have not seen. I had trouble getting prescription food from a clinic when we first moved to this area.

Try the revolution this year. If you don't like it, go back to what you used next year if it is available.
