Humm, did Sammi have a sheltie ruff before the haircut ? Just has a different look from one picture to another, but at 6 mos. Sally had that awkward look too, and i wasn't sure about her being a sheltie b/c she was a rescue. I think the markings on their face give them more of a shepherd look and maybe that's some of it, and since you have her fur trimmed, that makes a difference too. Time will tell. She is adorable no matter what. I am clearly no help.:o:pop

You are a help! It's really nice to be able to see other pictures of others who look similar to mine! Makes me feel that I'm not the only one with this coloring.

When I took her to the groomer, I told them to just trim her up in areas that were really full and shaggy, such as her butt fur (which was really long & thick). We thought to do that because her butt fur was so long that areas were matting from when she squatted in the yard to do her business.

But, yes I believe the backs of her legs and her ruff were somewhat fuller before the trim. I don't remember exactly just how much but I do remember thinking when I picked her up at the groomers, that I thought "oh no, maybe I shouldn't have gotten her fur trimmed", because she looked a bit more thinned out than I expected.

Thanks for your feedback, it really is a big help.
Oh, and Sammi is getting fixed this week, not next. My husband is taking her and he will ask the vet what she thinks too!

Oh wow! Sally is beautiful! At six months she does look somewhat similar to my Sammi, but in the middle picture where Sally is in the grass (at 10 months old) she looks all Sheltie to me! And she is beautiful, I wonder if my Sammi will look like that at 10 months of age as well!

Hello! I just wanted to post an update on Sammi. Over the past couple of weeks she has changed a bit. Since I had her fur trimmed about 5 weeks ago, it is starting to grow back and she looks like she is getting her sheltie collar. Sammi was spayed 2 weeks ago and we asked the Vet about her coloring and if the vet thought she was mixed with another breed. The vet said that even though her coloring is unusual, Sammi looks like a full sheltie. Her coloring is probably from somewhere in her gene history. So we obtained her pedigree papers and found out that Sammi's father is a "Blue" and her mother is "Black, White & Tan". All Sammi's other relatives (grandparents, etc.) are listed as Sable. Would the color of Sammi's parents result in her facial coloring and dark markings (a blue with a tri?) Mom listed as "black, white & tan would be a tri, correct?)
Anyway, here is a current picture of Sammi, she is 6 & 3/4 months old (it was taken last week). She will be 7 months old on Aug 9th. Her fur would probably be a bit longer if we hadn't gotten her trimmed 5 weeks ago.
Just wondered if anyone could provide insight as to her coloring based on parents color of tri & blue?
Sammi is about 17 in tall and weights 27 lbs.

Sammi is beautiful !!! She has really grown and looks like a sheltie to me. Not the one to ask about genetics. Does she herd things and bark like a maniac yet ?? Follow you around ??

Oh Yes she does all that! Sammi barks for everything (dishwasher door, to play, to go out, at the neighbors dogs, the list is really endless...), guess that's a sheltie!

Yes! She likes to grab things that she shouldn't (mostly shoes) and have us chase her around the table. Sometimes she'll herd the room when we come home. And yes, she loves to folow us around and she'll also lay at our feet, and loves to sit on our laps :)

She sounds like a real sweetie. I understand you feeling uncertain about Sammi being a sheltie cause that's how I felt too. The facial markings really do give a different look to them. There is no doubt now about Sally but I feel like you -it wouldn't have mattered if she wasn't a sheltie . Just makes you wonder...

Chanel with 'racoon' eyes

Hi
Meet Chanel - she is my 5 month old pup who we bred ourselves. Her dam is a blue merle and her sire is a shaded sable. Chanel is going to be a mahogany sable but with the "mask" which I've been led to believe is very unusual :-)

The sire's lineage is french and full of shaded sables and mahogany sables. Her dam's lineage is australian and full of black tri's and sables.

She's adorable! I've never seen a sheltie with a "mask". Would love to see what she looks like when she gets older :smile2:

Chanel is very cute- what a look !! Love her face, especially her eyes. Reminds me of Sally when she was young. It will be interesting to see how Chanel looks as she ages. Keep posting lots of pics!!!:pop
