I have a female sheltie that is 8 years old that was used as a breeder. I recently noticed se is eating dirt to the point she comes inside and drinks water and vomits it up. I have to stand and watch her to prevent this. I just had her spayed and teeth cleaned and shots , stool samples and blood work done March 10 2009. I waited to spay her until she was setteled in to our home. The dirt eating is something that as just started. Could she be lacking something or not? I do feed her taste of the wild grain free diet .I know her food is good quality. My other sheltie eats the same food too. The only difference is he is a male and he does well. So could this be related to her spaying? Any sugestions would be helpful>

Hope this helps. Best of luck and when all else fails call your vet.:wink2:

That was a great link Elaine! I was thinking almost exactly what the article said. Sometimes when one food works for one dog, it doesn't work for the other. You may want to mix in some canned dog food with her food and maybe that will help without trying to find another kibble. I have both of my girls on Chicken and Rice NutriSource, http://www.nutrisourcedogfood.com/products/adult, right now and I mix in some canned dog food, just a spoonful and they are doing great! I like that there is no corn in it at all! I can't believe how much softer their coats are and I'm not needing to feed them as much. Hope that helps a little! Good luck and let us know how things are going.

Well health specialists are recommending that kids (the human variety) should eat dirt to boost their immune systems. So I guess our fur kids have already worked it out for themselves.

Try sprinkling some Iodised Salt on her meal.... My Vet advised me that a number of years ago... she may be lacking nutrients! ... Can't hurt either.
