Did anyone ever see the story of Lilly, the miniature greyhound and the lady that rescued her? It was about an hour long (I watched it on the computer) and I cried through it!! It inspired this woman to save dogs (LOTS of dogs from puppy mills....she and her team are amazing. I can post it if anyone wants to watch...anyways....this is one she saved that is now ready for adoption.

Well it is a shame they always require a fenced yard. Here because we dont have a fence Chauncey gets taken to the dog park and spends 1.5 to 2 hours ( occasionally more if it is a nice breezy cool day) and we walk to our mailbox drop off 1 mile total trip daily. He has my attention most of the 24 hours in a day.
My other half is a bit jealous and wants his own sheltie now and I read this to him and he so would like her. I think he is crazy with 3 cats and a dog I dont want to go broke, I want to afford all their care. I have a feeling the way things are going and his love for Chauncey we will end up with another one day.
 
Oh! If I could have more dogs I would be rushing to get her right now! She looks so sweet! I was just in Arizona last week! I could have zipped over to Colorado on my way back to Texas! But I don't know if I'm ready for another dog. After I had to give up my little Dixie for having to many dogs in the city limits, (it was ether loose one or risk loosing them all) I don't think I could get another dog for a very long time. My mind would be screaming, "That's not Dixie!" I'm not sure if I could ever get another permanent sheltie without knowing that I've done all in my power to get my baby girl back. I'll just have to wait until I move out of this city:(. I really hope Shelly finds a new forever home!

If she was anything like Tin when he was rescued, cutting off the hair was a merciful thing. He still had sores on his body 11 weeks after being removed from the mill. It's all grown back now, and the shorter cut was less to work on as he learned to be groomed. I hope she gets a forever home soon.
 
I was amazed to read about dog auctions. That sounds so awful to me that people bring purebred registered dogs to an auction like cattle. Now I live in the country & am familiar with livestock auctions but this floored me. I just got an email this morning from my rescue group contacts about an auction.
I couldn't believe they even say concessions available... like it's a circus or something. Is it just me that's thinking this isn't right?

This auction business is so disturbing on so many levels, I can feel my tears building and my blood boiling. All these years and we never learn anything about pet care, why will this never end, won't the laws deal more harshly with these people?
 
I will admit that I am having a bit of a problem following this particular thread, and perhaps someone can tell me what I am missing:

(1). How did the thread veer off into dog auctions? I have reread the posts several times (and skimmed the link in the OP) and I don't see how we jumped to dog auctions.

(2). Admittedly, dog auctions sound a bit distasteful to me (primarily because I had never heard of one), but I'm not sure that (absent more information), I am ready to leap to the conclusion that they are bad things (maybe they are, I just don't know that they are). I've been to auctions of thoroughbred horses and high dollar bulls/cows. My guess is that most folks don't immediately jump to the conclusion that those auctions are somehow distasteful. Plus, even though we don't like it, most animal regulations look at dogs as property just like livestock.

Before anyone jumps to the conclusion that I am condoning dog auctions, don't. I'm just trying to follow the flow of the thread and I don't know how this particular turn in the conversation occurred.
