Does anyone have a problem with their Sheltie wanting to recycle Stool.
I clean up after my 2 Shelties once a day and try to watch when I leave my one that trys to eat frozen stool. If given a chance she will go for it. I now use a can with penny's and shake that if she goes near it and I go out to pick it up..I know it is disgusting thinking of her wanting to eat it..Anyone else with the problem...otherwise they are great..

Poop pops !!:eek2: Unfortunately some dogs do try to do this. They do sell some stuff I believe it's called deter, not sure. But it makes them not want to go to the Poop !! It is pretty gross isn't it.:o I could never figure out why they do this how could they eeven think this as eatable::confused2: Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks for replying. I will check on Deter....I have had Shelties since the 1970s and never had this...At one point I had 4 Shelties , that was years ago when I was much younger and had them in Dog Training and obedience...Oh those were the day...fun....

Poopcicles

:biggrin2:Please let me know how this works out for you, I have 4 kids and 3 of them do this. I am told that any breed of dog will do this and that there is nothing we can do about it. Yes this is truley gross, but we love them anyway:wink2:

I worked for a vet that would always recommend trying a tablespoon of pumpkin (canned, no additives). It worked for about 50% of the people that tried it. Something about it not tasting good 'the second time around'.

Your problem may clear up with the weather. Crunch cold poop is SOO much tastier than warm poop, from what I have seen!

Luckily, non of my current dogs eat theirs, but my senior sheltie who passed a year back loved to sneak into the cat box for a cruncy coated treat:(!

Horse Poop !!

Ann you are funny  They are difficult to get angry with. My sheltie Jewel never did it but Tasha on the other hand will do it all, cat ,or dog.:eek2: Snowy thanks for that suggestion Pumpkin is at least more natural. But I can't figure out what could taste worse than Poop!!

Smoke leaves the doggy poo alone but he is also a raider of the cat box. We keep a baby gate up on the guest bedroom where kitty's food and box are, because kitty does not like dogs at all and we wanted her to have a place of her own. Occasionally, though, one of the dogs will hit the gate just right and it comes crashing down. Apollo heads straight for the kitty food and Smoke heads straight for the litter box :rolleyes2:

We tried several different things. Layla eventually outgrew it for the most part, but once in a while she comes in with poop-breath. Of course, that's when she always wants to give Mom a big kiss:eek2:

Every once in a while, we have problems with them snacking on deer poop -- and with Easter comes rabbit pellet season. Oh, the joys of country living!

Arran used to eat his own but once he was fully house trained he stopped, I was told to try pineapple it never worked for him but I have spoken to others that it has worked for. It can also depend on what your feeding your dog, if you feed a poor quality food then a lot of it will be passed undigested and of course the dog will think it's just finishing off it's meal .
Edited to add:- We used to have house rabbits and my first sheltie Ailsa used to look on them as her own personal sweetie dispenser, she would nudge Chinaski's bum and out would pop a sweet
