I agree. Call the breeder and tell her what medical issues you are facing. Generally these kind of things don't show up until they are five or six years old and it's far too late to save any other pups from the same grief. The fact that he bled so badly during the surgery could be that he has VWD. We have lost dogs to that terrible genetic disease. One precious little one was only 12 weeks old. She had a hole in her heart and they were attempting to repair it. But she bled out on the table before they could get it stopped.

If this is a registered pup I'd also call the organization and report the breeder. Something is very NOT right with her breeding program.

Poor Smudge! I do hope he gets better (or a least doesn't get any worse for now!)

I agree with everyone about seeing if you can email pictures to the vet.

If money is tight, try looking into the local vet schools and see if they are doing any studies on mange. They do good work, it is usually free or very cheap...they do try new things though, so if the idea of something new scares you - don't try it.

The local university here one of the students was doing sheltie only tests, something to do with the kidneys I believe. I got called by my vet about it - never got around to doing it though.

Anyways, worth checking into.
 
I will be going to the vet first thing in the morning when they open. I'm also going to get pictures developed so that she can see the way it has been progressing.

What is VWD? :confused2:

I've tried emailing the "breeder", but I've gotten no response. I am going to report her to the puppy mill website. Maybe at least then she won't get any extra business online. :mad: I have no idea how to report her to the AKC though.

I just found out what it was as soon as you posted. Is it normal for a sheltie's teeth to be bleeding while they are still teething? :uhoh:
 
My Buddy did bleed a little on his sock and his tug toy while he was teething. He was teething at about 6 months and it lasted for about a 1 1/2 months. How old is your King Buddy?

It is definitely not getting better. Good luck at the vet tomorrow!

And don't give up on bringing this breeder down. Keep your pictures and keep track of the correspondence that you've attempted with your breeder. Then gather your file and send it to the AKC and every Sheltie group in your vicinity. I would be angry enough too, to send in editorials to the local newspaper

This breeder should be brought down for failing to have the slightest concern for a pup that she only just recently sent to his home. I think we can all accept that sometimes bad things happen, but for the breeder to compleely ignore you? That just smells bad.
 
Poor baby!! I feel so bad for you both and I know I have said that before. I can't offer up any advice but I have to agree with the others, I would call the vet first thing tomorrow morning. I hope Smudge gets better soon. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers tonight. Hugs from me and my girls.
 
Bleeding is normal, esp when he loses a tooth. Deska had a gusher once and I took him to the vet and the vet told me it was just a big tooth that he lost - and he probably swallowed it which is why I never saw a tooth. I felt like such a dummy, but who knew they bled so much.
 
Oh poor little guy. I can't offer any additional advice to what's already been given. Prayers and lots of positive healing energies continuing for Smudge.
