Thanks for the immune system ideas. I will check those out ASAP (and possibly opt for the more speedy shipping!). After thinking about it long and hard and arguing with myself I made a very hard decision. I emailed Smudge's "breeder". In my letter I was very nice, and let her know what happened to Smudge. I told her my vet said that she should not breed Max and Shelly (the names of Smudge's mom and dad) because they are passing on mange to their puppies. I send her pictures and my vet's phone number.

She can't demand that I give Smudge back, can she? :uhoh: That was one of my main concerns with emailing her. I don't want money from this woman, but I do want her to stop breeding. I sent a copy of the email I sent her to myself and to my mom. I hope that $250 I gave her to get Smudge causes her nothing but trouble. I do believe there is a special place below for those who are cruel to animals, and I hope God shows her more compassion than she has shown her "pets". :mad:

I'll see what she says when she emails me back. If she emails me back at all.
 
No it is highly unlikely she'll have the right to take Smudge back. I think it's good that you're letting her know, though it is unlikely she will take it very well. I doubt she will take your advice though if Smudge's parents are still in good breeding condition. It's a business for her isn't it? Good thing Smudge is with you!! He's getting the best care he can.

Lingzhi is a chinese herb thing (it's actually a mushroom) that is very good for immune systems and is prescribed to dogs with cancer and other problems by the vet that Romeo went to for his legs! The wild ones are supposedly more "potent". They are cheap tho. I found this one shop here that ships internationally - http://www.euyansang.com.sg It's US$90!! (But this store prices their items higher than the small chinese medicinal halls we have here.) One capsule can be used over 3 days tho' (typical dosage for a small dog). So with 60 capsules that's 6 months? Cordyceps are another (weird) but good traditional chinese medicine type of "supplement" you can consider. It's an all round healthy booster. My mum got this for my gran when she was ill recently. It's also horribly pricey (not to mention horribly gross).

There is also 4Life's Transfer Factor for dogs which I heard also boosts the immune system. I haven't tried it before though.

Let me know if you can find Lingzhi where you are. Otherwise I can try to get you some (I'll look for cheaper ones) and send it over. Early Christmas present!

That's very nice of you, but I'm afraid the shipping would kill us both. I order Asian music cds from overseas all the time, and the shipping is almost as much as the (overpriced) cd itself. Thank you for the offer though. :yes: I think what I have decided to do is wait until Tuesday. About a month ago I requested an extra day off per week starting Sept. 1st and ending Oct. 6th. So since I will have an extra day off (making it Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday paid I will have off) I think I will venture into the next town over and see what Petsmart has to offer. I figure if I order something online now it wouldn't get here until at least Tuesday anyway.

Also. All the talk about contacting breeders and regristration papers made me go to my room and dig around for Smudge's papers. I'm not sure how to check his line through their website, but this is what I found. Smudge's birthday is April 10th. Now you look at this and tell me this isn't shady:

Those are the AKC's listed dates that the regsstration papers went through and got accepted. Does it not seem horribly odd that Shelly's (birth mother) paperwork got filed almost one month to the day that Smudge's did? Maybe it's just me but something's not clicking there either. Also. The two numbers in the front of the AKC registration - what do those stand for? Do they mean anything? Like Smudge's first two letters are DN. So it would be like DN123456.
 
Don't know much about AKC but it does seem odd that they waited to register his mother until she was pregnant. An unplanned pregnancy perhaps?
 
The skin around Smudge's eye has began to crack and bleed. :cry: What can I do until Wednesday to help this? I know they make liquid bandages, but it's his eye area and I don't want to glob the area up. It's going to hurt him so bad when they do the dip again Wednesday. I just know it. :( I bought some store brand dog vitamins today at work to do me until I can go to the petstore on Tuesday. It's for dogs, (they were out of the puppy vitamins of course) so I split it in half and gave him one of the pieces.

Also, I was googling, and you'll never guess who has an ad for $75 shetland sheepdog puppies. :mad: No email response, either.

So now his eye area is really dry and cracking?
Maybe a moisturizer or vaseline?
 
We recently came across an antibiotic cream in out Ractor store,that we are using on Earnhardt.It works very well.you may just try a dab of Neosporin,to help it stay soft.i'm sure it's quite annoying for him also.Does he bother it,like trying to scratch? you may want to put a cone back on him,and keep something to help the area stay moist.I'm clueless,but I would think it would be irritating tohim tohave it so dry & bleeding.
This poor guy,and you to.I so hope & pray he gets on the mend soon.
 
I would be tempted to use something like Polysporin (an antiobiotic eye cream). It should help keep it moist as well.

Poor baby! What a horrible time, he's been through.
 
You could use a human cream for burns - they are usually antiseptic creams and are safe for open wounds. or an antibiotic cream. Alternatively, lanolin is always a good option.

OMG - $75 for a sheltie pup, would that even cover vet checks and shots? Very suspicious.
