Sheltie's with Human Personality?

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if there are more shelties out there like my boy Levi.

He has such a human personality, for example: If DW and I are chatting it up in bed, and he is trying to sleep at the bottom of the bed, he will turn his head and give us a dirty look, shortly before departing to his second favorite place. the bathroom floor.

Anyone else have similar things like this happen?

Yea, we get the sheltie stink eye too. Also the poor pathetic starving look and the big ole sheltie grin when she's playin ball and the crazed, frantic look when someone has the nerve to walk by our house.:pop
 
Ellie totally gets off on making me laugh. She knows she can make me laugh by getting up on the couch with me, standing on my legs and sticking her face in mine. It puts me into hysterics and that just makes her soooooooo happy! She grins and grins!

Honey, my first love, knew swear words. If she heard swear words, she would the speaker was upset and she would get very anxious. In fact, as an experiment, we said some swear words in sentences using very calm and neutral voices and she STILL could pick them out and get stressed. (Disclaimer--it was not ME who swore, lol).

If my boy thought that he was being cheated out of an earned treat, he would look right at me, and stomp his paw. If his first stomp didn't work, he would lift his leg even higher, and stomp again. He never did that to beg. He only did that when he thought that he was being cheated.

When my boy had a serious complaint, such as really, really, needing to go outside to potty, he would look right at me and "crytalk".

One time, when I told my boy "Quiet", his response was an indignant "Huff!".
 
Beau definitely acts human, One day Beau swallowed a candy wrapper off the ground while on a walk, I waited and waited for him to throw it up. I was just about to call the vet when you guessed it he threw it up. so, then I tell Beau," Okay Beau, I'm not going to call the vet but, I'm not going to give you any more food for the rest of the day. " Beau wasn't having any of that, Beau went to his bag of food that I keep on a open hutch. Beau, stuck his nose in his bag of food, came over to me(I was sitting on the floor) nudged me with his nose, slapped me with his paw and flung a look(tail wagging a mile a minute)over to his food. I said " NO, Beau" Well two more times he did this and on the third time Beau not only nudged and slapped me, he twirled around in the middle of my living room and let out a cry. Clearly he was telling me he was hungry was okay and wanted food," I caved in and gave him some, he was perfectly fine.

He talks to me all the time.

Yes they are sooooo smart our Shelties..and Blaze talks all the time...too cute!.. : ) I think he is also part human...I swear.
 
When I got my Danny Boy my parents who had numerous shelties through the years said Danny Boy acts more like a human than a dog and that he is just different. He liked to sniff around their faces and hair and then clean their ears. He didn't like my mom's blush so he proceeded to lick it off. I swear Danny Boy can read minds because he knows what I am thinking most of the time. When he wants me to do something he comes and stares at me intently and I usually get the message. Twilight zone stuff.
 
Well, I can't say that these descriptions of Sheltie behaviour are actually descriptions of "human" behaviour! I mean, I don't remember the last time a human tried to lick my makeup off me because he didn't like it....or a human slapped with his paw when he was demanding supper....:razz::lol: (in my experience my shelties lick off my cream because for some weird reason they like the taste! And my dogs are most definitely insistent when it is suppertime!)

But I will say that Shelties do have abnormally sensitive tendencies. They are very attune to their humans. I know if I even utter an almost silent "tsk" under my breath, Indy comes running, knowing that I'm displeased about something. And clearly if I'm truly upset about something the dogs will either come cuddle or run and hide. It doesn't even take a raised voice for them to pick up on it. They definitely sense my mood.

I do think its a mistake to overly "humanize" animals, but I won't disupt this post any further with my thoughts on this.

Enought to say, that Shelties are awesome and in my view, more receptive to humans than many breeds.
