Sheltie's with Human Personality?

My favorite is going on a walk in the rain. My almost 5 year of Pebbles will stand on the porch and look at me like "mom, are you crazy? I'm not going in that rain. You go potty while it is raining, I'll just hold it and wait here." :no:

The stink eye when we disturb her beauty rest is priceless.
 
My aunt always tells me that Riley thinks he's human because he always has to be in the middle of all the action :lol:

I'm not sure if he thinks he's a human but sometimes I wish I could speak dog! A few weeks ago, I was at the dog park with my friend and her mini schnauzer. Her mini schnauzer is normally okay with Riley as long as he's calm like when we're on walks. Riley sometimes gets overexcited when he plays so her dog was getting overwhelmed and scared.

I was in the process of steering Riley away from her dog when I noticed another dog heading towards us. The dog went straight up to Riley gave a loud "ruff", as if to say, "that's enough!". I could tell there was no aggression and Riley got the message. He immediately stopped and slunked off like a child that had just been scolded.

It was amazing how easily that dog corrected Riley, I could have never got him to calm down that quickly! I knew he wasn't scared or anything because when I called him back he came and politely went up to the other dog and exchanged sniffs.

Needless to say, I've tried that "ruff" but it just doesn't have the same effect..:o
 
Like Barb, I don't really think they exhibit totally human behavior, but Shelties are CONSUMATE communicators! You might say they speak fluent human.

Both my Shelties (and my border collies to a lesser extent) have communicated to me with subtle eye movements. All I have to say is "tell me what you want" and watch the eyes. They'll go from you to the item and back again. I like to mess with their heads by mimicking the eye movements. Drives Bela crazy, but she's learned that all-important, successful indoor dog skill, how to communicate effectively with her human.

Helps, too, that I "speak dog". Bela and I tend to be pretty tuned-in to each other due to the fact that she and I are together better than 90% of the time. She still has the occasional "feral dog" episode, but is getting better and better at refocusing herself.

That being said, she does LOVE to watch TV. I mean really watching the screen. She was fascinated with it from day one. Since she was a puppy mill rescue, I figure she'd never seen one before, and it just caught her fancy. All I really know for sure is that this is the bravest and most joyful little dog I've ever had the pleasure of sharing my life with!
 
Doolie loves close face contact. If I wink at him he just goes into rapture!:wink2:

"Out" or "Outside" even said at random times in any given sentence with perk their little ears and brighten their eyes as they think the door will be opening soon for them to go out and play.

Love my little smart pooches!
 
Miley could say "out" (it sounded like ooot) but would say it when you asked "wanna go out?" she would say it , wag her tail and go to the door. My BFF thought I had lost it until she witnessed it herself.

At exactly 11pm if my husband had not gone to bed she would sit at his feet and bark her head off until he gave up and just went to bed :lol:

She liked to eat popcorn when it would pop out of the bowl from the hot air popper and land on the floor. Eventually, she would ONLY eat the ones with butter on them. Talk about a choosy begger!

Miley was supremely human in nature and understood alot more than my kids :yes:

Bella..not so much lol. But she is still young. Although when she is ready to sleep she barks until you turn off the TV and she loves to give the stink eye
