I was lucky enough that Zoey wasn't the licker, so I didn't have to use clothes or cone of shame to prevent her to lick there, but if I had to pick, the clothing is definitely a cuter and less frustrating approach.
And to add personal experience with Zoey's spay, she was very mellow the days after the surgery. We didn't prevent her to jump on the furniture, but she'd just get up there and lay down. She was not active at all, she'd just sleep anywhere she would get to.
Admittedly, we kinda wished she stayed that way sometimes. She's got so much energy

Mui Mui had spayed on last Saturday, she is back to normal today,
but these 2 days, I found blood when she pee pee.
I bought her back to the vet, and the vet checked her incision is fine and no blood come out.
and he said mui mui is doing fine. any experience why will have blood on her urine?

Where I live in Ontario, it cost over $300 for everything for Emma and more than that for the neuter for Liam - different vets.
If you can book through the humane society (they have two sites that do spays and neuters close to my area), it is less than $100.00.

I just had my 4 year old spay yesterday. She's currently with the breeder recovering and will come back home on Wednesday.
We are going to take our grooming table down and put the x-pen up in its place for the two weeks we'll need for her recovery. She loves to jump on the couch, bed, etc. (and the bed is higher off the floor than the couch). So, she'll be in the x-pen during the day and her crate overnight so she can be in the bedroom with us. She definitely won't be happy but she'll be able to heal properly.
The most difficult thing is keeping them calm so they don't pop stitches.
Actually you only have to wait 1 month after the heat cycled to spay. The wait period is to allow swelling to go down.
How do I know this? My little girl had her heat cycle in September, just prior to her spaying. We had to wait the entire month of October before she could be spay.
