Steel, ceramic or plastic!?

Hi All~

What types of feed and bowls do you all use? I have been using stainless steel for both water/food bowls as I read there easier to keep clean and sanitary, is this true?? :biggrin2:

I think it's definitely true. I used ceramic for years because I liked how decorative they were, and two of my dogs got cysts or rashes on their chin or around their mouths. My vet said switching them to stainless would prevent this, and it has. When it happened with Pixie, there was a spot on her lower lip that looked awful and spread. As soon as I switched her bowl it cleared up! So now I don't take chances....everyone eats and drinks from stainless and it all goes in the dishwasher every night. No problems! :smile2:
 
Funny you should ask this today.

We'd been using all stainless steel because we'd heard it was cleaner, but Bentley got some nice ceramic dishes for free at an agility event.

Now that we have Lexi, we've noticed that the both of them prefer the stainless steel bowls to the ceramic. So, we just got back from Petco where we bought new bowls for Bentley and a big stainless steel bowl for both of them for water.
 
All stainless here to.Although Trapps & Jaspers is a very low shallow bowl(stainless)

With thier long muzzles,I notices Trapp was eating kinda sideways.One day I caught him when he was just home for a day or two,and his head was kinda sideways,grabbing food with his tongue.So we switched to a low,shallow bowl now for both shelties.
 
Good to know I am doing it right! :yes:. I tend to be somewhat of a germaphobe so anything that helps prevent germs, kills bacteria and is easy to clean, I LOVE it :lol:..I even go as far as soaking the food/water bowls in bleach/water once a week. :o. And yes of course I rinse, rinse, rinse after :biggrin2:.

Stainless steel here, cermanic is ok for alot of dogs just clean every meal time. Plastic is bad. It is porous and bacteria can become trapped in the pores and no matter how you clean it, it is never clean.
 
I unfortunately do not have the best dishwasher and believe it or not, it's not the dishwashers fault!

Our hot water heater is on the exact opposite side of our house, so in order for the water IN the dishwasher to stay relatively hot, I have to periodically run the kitchen sink hot water :mad:. When it comes to keeping my dishes properly clean, pet bowls and all, I have to hand wash them pretty good first then put them in the dishwasher :cool:.

So when all of you can put your stainless steel bowls in your dishawashers and KNOW they are being cleaned, I have to soak mine first..

No fair, no fair, :razz:
 
I have one stainless steel bowl indoors, and one outside. The one in gets food in it, then is washed out and has water in it.

Can't remember the last time it had a proper wash:uhoh:
