The Commute from Hell

I am home at last. Why is that such a big deal, you ask. Because I survived the DC snowstorm of 2011. I left work yesterday afternoon at 3:30 -- we were allowed to leave two hours early to beat the snowstorm. HA! Layla and I were on the road for seven and a half hours, :dead: and we didn't even get all the way -- we stayed with a friend who lives fifteen minutes from our place. At Nattering Springs, we had 10 inches! :eek2:

Layla was amazing. She hung in there, keeping my spirits up and being such a good little disaster companion. I think I'd have lost my mind if she hadn't been along. At one point, we were stopped for nearly an hour, so I took her for a walk -- yep, right on the road. We got stuck twice and have three Good Samaritans to thank for getting us out.

I got home at 1:30 this afternoon.

Welcome home Chris, what an adventure you had and glad you are okay. Good girl Layla for being your buddy. How very scary to be stuck in all that snow.

What a dreadful day, Chris! So glad you and Layla are home safe. I feel your pain...we had another 10 inches today on top of the 2+ feet already out there. The trenches for the Shelties are so deep that we can only see the tips of their tails when they go outside. Like little moving sharks....

Cuddle up in a nice blanket tonight with all your Shelties! (and a big glass of wine!! )

Chris, so glad you finally made it home! What an ordeal.

I have friends who stayed at work for 10 hours in the DC area because they knew it would be impossible to get home.

WOW, I saw that on the news up here that people in DC were stuck!! Glad you had a travel companion to keep your spirits up!!!! I think I would have gone mad!!!

We got a foot + up here last night..blahhhhh I think they said we have 3 feet on the ground now, seems right since half of my 6ft fence is missing....and 2 more storms by next week...Im sooo sick of shoveling!!!

glad that you got home safely..

makes me think I should stop complaining about all our rain and be thankful we don't have to shovel it.

So glad to hear you made it home safely. I was glad to be home watching the news than on the beltway for all those hours. So many people ran out of gas and just had to abandon their cars in the middle of the highway. Just heard on the news the state is going to pay for all the towed cars.

The Eastern US just keeps getting wholloped this winter! I'm so glad that you finally arrived safe and sound.

It's a bizarre winter up here. In Ottawa, where by now, I should have 4 feet of snow drifts, my backyard has maybe about 6 inches. It's been mild, except for a couple of deep freeze days this week.

Of course, this freaky weather really sucks from a business point of view. I work for the Canadian Automobile Association, and we love cold, snowy winters to keep membership up! The last few years have been mild, so folk are thinking they don't need their membership anymore. But all it takes is ONE -25C day, and then they remember why they should have one!!!! Many learned that lesson this week, I'm afraid!

wow, what a night you had :eek2: I'm glad you made it home safe and sound!

On top of the 5 inches we had yesterday morning, we got another 18 inches through the night. I couldn't get to work today. Bailey was happy, but my wallet isn't :(

This winter has been insane!
