The Fuminator

Actually, Kelly, that Furminator has been gone for months. Should I delete it? Sorry it's still hanging around there!
 
We have the Furminator. Spencer pretty much hates it and since I groom him either daily or every other day, I use the regular grooming tools on him.:rolleyes2: But - we have seven cats and they love it and it does a great job on them.:winkgrin:

I have a Furminator and I love it.

I don't use it everytime and not everywhere on their bodies. I tend to use it about once a month and generally only on their hinnies! It's great at removing the thick undercoat when it starts to bulk up.

I also don't use it as aggressively as they do on the video and I dampen the fur a little first. You do not want to break the fine guard hair. I actually use a gentler touch then I would with a regular pin brush.
 
Should I always brush/groom her with a damp coat? I didn't know it would break her coat if i brushed her when she is dry. I figured it would be easier to get any matts out that way. Do you recommend using a spray conditioner while I groom her? Thanks!

I normally dilute waterless shampoo in water and then brush. Then quick brush over with spray on conditioner.

You should never brush the coats 100% dry - regardless of the brush you use. You'll notice it as soon as you get zapped by their coat while you brush. And you'll find it easier to brush when slightly damp anyway.

Water is fine too, but I figure if I'm going to take to the time to brush they migth as well get some cleaning/conditioning in at the same time.
 
We use the furminator too, and also mostly on Romeo's bum which starts to look like a ballerina's tutu skirt after awhile. It helps alot there. I also use it very gently but don't do it on damp fur. I should try Barb's suggestion!
