The moment you knew ...

I am not sure there is not a Sheltie I like  I think I petted everyone at the Sheltie gathering including some that 'do not like other people'. All the ones at flyball see me. And I still think I need to kidnap Destin :hide

So I got the only one left with Sca (only two in the litter) and he is perfect. Same with The Spitfire. Despite his times of evil he is also a snuggle dog where Sca gets to wound up and has to run when petted.

Flyer was the first time I had puppies to choose from. Justus was the only available, and Bobby was a rescue.

I knew when I first saw the picture of the litter. I knew for sure though when the breeder went and got her and asked me if it was ready for extreme cuteness. She was mine from the first time she went right into my arms and kissed me. She folloew me everywhere now.

My heart went out the first time I held him, like he belonged. He has been a good puppy to raise. However, he is just this rangy pet quality boring sable with a dark mask and too-long black tail and ears that don't match right now and at times I just look at how plain and kind ugly he is when everyone else's puppy is cute and more cute. BUT the moment I knew "I done good" was Saturday on our first outing when he just did it right from leash walking to greeting strangers to no accident in his first hotel room to enjoying shopping. I couldn't me more proud at that adventure. I got my road warrior and we have places to go and things to do.

Now to grow out of carsick, but I am sure he will.

Your boy is great looking! I love his coloring actually. Who needs a show dog when you have a well behaved perfect companion.

As far as when I knew well I don't entirely yet but he sure does seem like a great match so far.

Thanks. I have a sable inferiority complex which is kinda nuts because sable is supposed to be the most common color but kind of isn't.

It is the most common coloration. You just see lots of Merle's on here because this is a site full of enthusiasts for the breed more so than people who keep dogs simply as pets and as enthusiasts I believe a lot of people go for the more unique coloration. My guess is a lot of people who own shelties don't even know they come in colors other than sable.

So true. Around here people will ask why you didn't bob the tail on your Australian Shepherd when they see a blue merle. When you show up with your bi-black, they want to know where you found a mini Border Collie.
