The weird things Shelties go ballistic over...

Toffee's Mom

Ok, Not sure if you already had a thread like this, BUT I was wondering what are some of the strange behaviours that makes your dog go a weeeeeee bit crazy? So we all know the vacuums, shadow barking, people, strangers anything they haven't seen before...
It will make for a few good stories, I am confident of it!

Soooooooo Toffee cannot STAND it when I sneeze!? I find it so bizarre and funny, and totally weird!

God forbid I sneeze!!... When he hears me sneeze, he jumps BARKING, or I should say he flys barking from whereever he is to land on top of me in order to thump into my chest with his paws... (which kinda jumpstarts my heart, IF it wasn't already beating awfully fast by then, lol).
He barks directly into my face, as if to start giving mouth to mouth, pawing at me, trying to lick until I have recovered enough to FINALLY have caught my breath and told him to back off already and say "I am ok, you freakishly weird dog" lol
:)

Did you guys want to know what the funny thing about sneezing is for me? ... You are completely helpless at that exact moment, even if you see a furrball hurling at you at top speed coming at ya like a bullet. Because as Shelties would he has anticipated the sneeze since it seems to be preceeded with a sharp intake of breath, lol

Any other Sneezy fiends in your Sheltie world? Or any other odd little behaviours?
:)

Indy's latest trick is to go nuts when he hears me pull a Kleenex out of the box. He feels particularly justified for his action when he witnesses the kleenex wrap around my nose, and then he really lets loose, while I blow!

Help, help! Call 9-1-1! Nevermind! I'll just bark and let the entire neighbourhood know.....Mom must be suffocating on that nasty white thing that's covering her face....

LOL
that's hilarious..
sneezing is the worst for Toffee but in addition he doesn't like weird, hard coughing, aka if something goes down your throat the wrong way... another helpless moment you can't do anything but try and bat him away, fighting him off while you are trying to breathe lol
Wouldn't they make horrid therapy dogs??? lol

My Katie used to go wild when I would sneeze or cough she would rush at me. I think she thought something was after me and I would tell her I am okay and she would back off. Maggie does it to some degree but nothing like Katie. I am missing her so very much this week.

Toffee's Mom - you described my Maia to the T!!! when I sneeze. She will come full speed from anywhere when I sneeze and bark right in my face! There have been plenty of times that she's hit me in the face with her nose when she jumps up - and you are right - you are completely helpless at that point!

God, I LOVE these forums, so now I have confirmation that Toffee isn't the only sneezing nutcase LOL

awww, good to remember the crazy things Katie used to do... I am sure Maggie will come up with a few doozey's all of her own

1. VAcumn ---due to the motor noise that we cannot hear that dogs can hear -- it is the high pitch noise.
2. Lawn mower -- once again the shelties can hear the spectrum of sounds that we cannot hear and it upsets them.
3. Harley Motorcycles -- i think we all agree that these are devil's work.
4. Sneezing -- Loud sound that shelties interpret as aggressive or something gone wrong.

Okay, I think mine are the classic OCD nutters because if it makes a noise it needs to be barked at - including
  • anything electrical that makes the remotest noise
  • black electrical cords (figure that one out),
  • aeroplanes, helicopters and noisy birds
  • skateboards (evil incarnate), scooters, bicycles (esp the training ones)
  • plastic bags...and the list goes on

AND BLOWING RASBERRIES! Mine go into a crazy barking, humping, spinning frenzy if anyone makes a rasberry sound! So I have to be careful when I try to blow the sheltie fur from my mouth or we end up in psycho mode.

Man does Bentley HATE when we "fluff" the trash bag to put it into the can. He goes absolutely crazy! He also goes crazy when we cheer and clap while watching sports. So between the yelling, cheering and barking, it's hard to watch sports with us! :)

He also hates the vacuum, motorcycles, skateboards and bikes but I think that's a pretty typical sheltie behavior. haha
