The weird things Shelties go ballistic over...

Izzie goes crazy when I step on the scale to weigh myself. She also loves to let us know when one of the cell phones ring.

.............for 2 reasons:

1) I am beginning to think Cleveland was either abnormal or he was another breed in Shelties clothing because he did not have any of these, shall I say, piccadillos. (And remember Cleveland was unpapered, non AKC because he was a rescue and I always did question his parentage!)

AND

2) All of these, again shall we say piccadillos are starting to show up in McKinley!

He just stares at me right at the moment when I sneeze!

(I don't care though, he is just so darn cute and full of fun and mischief and I just adore him)

I was laughing so hard when I read this, because I swear since I started here somebody jinxed me because I used to say he's not too vocal at all! lol
Fun and mischief and cuteness is pretty much Shelties at their the best, lol

The sneezing is the only thing he goes Sheltie crazy over.
He does ALSO do the cell thing, but he just points at his with his long nose and looks at me, like answer this! when it rings, but no crazy barking, but I love that and have encouraged it since. No more where did I put my cellphone?.. when it rings I just have to follow Toffee's nose who's already pointing at it, hahaha. Even when it is in another room, etc.

Smudge doesn't really hate anything (except the vet ). I can blow my nose until the cows come home and he won't care. He does go crazy when I open the front door. He makes the most pitiful whining noises you've ever heard in your life and won't shut up until you open the screen door to let him outside on the porch. You can forget opening the door around him. You'll get nothing accomplished. He'll claw and claw at it until you open the door and let him outside.

Where to start?!

It is nice to know we aren't alone in our Sheltie idiosyncracies! The list is endless, and mine teach these traits to their roommates so they all react. Here goes:

The vacuum, phone, can opener food processor, mixer or blender, hair dryer, closing cabinet doors, lawn mower, shaking trash bags, loud cars, trucks or motorcycles, taking out a cutting board, any kind of chopping in the kitchen--even with a knife, certain TV commercial jingles, when our pet finch tweets in his cage, barking dogs on TV, putting on my watch (which means I'm leaving), walking toward the door at feeding time for the horses, brooms or mops and dusting furniture...I could go on and on. :uhoh:

Basically, our dogs would prefer it if we just sat in one place and patted them all day...:rolleyes2:

Aztec has a lot of things he doesn't like. We call them "Aztec's Rules"...there has to be hundreds of them! Some things that make him go really crazy:

1. Phone ringing. And don't ever, ever say "get the phone" to someone else. He barks and chases people to the phone.

2. Sliding glass door. Everytime it opens or closes, he comes running in from anywhere. If he is outside and you start to close the door he charges the door, jumps against it and barks. But he doesn't want to come inside...he just doesn't want you to close the door on him.

3. Neighbors dog. I have no idea what it is about this dog, because Aztec loves dogs! But the neighbors lab must say something nasty or something. Because he will lay there and listen to her bark forever and then go absolutely nuts barking at her out the window.

4. Counting to three. And unfortunately he is smart. We can't count to three in english, spanish or polish without him going absolutely ballistic. He can be sleeping, and if we count he is right there and barking.

Well, I think my 9 month old sheltie pup may be a bit weird for a sheltie. He doesn't have a problem with barking at much of anything. All my other shelties, had strange things they went nuts on, just like the rest of you. In fact, we used to sneeze at each other like it was a form of communication--1dog would sneeze, I would sneeze, the other shelties would form a circle with me and we would all sneeze a few times. A passing sneeze to greet each other was common. And they got excited about every little thing that happened--we had 5 acres, so there wasn't too much reason to stop them.

Now Buddy, I think he has sneezed 2 times in the whole 7 months that I've had him. He barks when other dogs in the neighborhood bark, or if someone is on our property. He also barks when he runs or does zoomies, or when we are rough-housing with him.

I've been taking him to the music in the park this summer and he hasn't freaked about anything. Everyone wants to pet him and he's perfectly happy about it--old people to little babies and he's fine. People walk by with crutches and he just watches, doesn't bark, back-up, or run to get them--he's fine. The only thing I was a little worried about were roller blading and skate boarding--I had him on a leash and he didn't do anything, but I sure got the feeling that if I let him loose he would be after them in a flash. I guess he must have good herding instincts.

Well lets see, Kia's weird habits !!

She hates the vacum cleaner as expected, but is fine with it if she is in her kennel ?? What's with that? If you go into the kitchen she takes off and hides. She has associated the kitchen with the smoke alarm going off .:uhoh::lol: But my absolute favorite is The flashlight. She is not afraid of it she wants to chase the light like a cat. I have never seen a dog act this way with a flashlight before. I will put it down on the floor when I'm sick of playing flashlight tag and she has actually learned to turn it on and off !! Because it's a click on that you just push the backof the flashlight and its on then again and it's off. I must attempt to get that on video.

The Sound of Pyschosis

It's a single sound: The sound of squirrel feet landing on the lawn after a fence-top leap. I swear to God. :rolleyes2:

motorcycles (ONLY Harley Davidson), joggers, bicycles, vacuums, brooms, rakes, fans, loud trucks, tractors and other farm equipment, me moving furniture.

Ruckus usually doesnt freak out over bicycles, and joggers much anymore.

I have to put the vacuum in the laundry room behind closed doors. if i dont, he will actually attack it and the vacuum will fall over on him. and then he thinks it has gotten him, and he blows anal glands everywhere :rolleyes2:

oh and the lawn mower!!!

Max has all those traits but he still goes nuts over bicycles & sneezes. :rolleyes2: And I can't even think about using a water hose if he's around.
