Thoughts on this information regarding non-AKC reg

I'm planning to look at two sables this week and they are offered under this special circumstance:

The mother is of course, one of our females,but we did NOT intend to breed her for at least another year. She turned 1 year old in May of this year and the puppies were born in July!!! So, it was definitely an unplanned breeding. The father is a male who we were 'fostering' until he could have all the tests completed necessary to be imported into Australia, so he is now out of the country. Given these circumstances, I have chosen not to register this litter with AKC. The owner of the father is well aware of the puppies existance and offered to sign paperwork, but he is now the sire of the first bi colored litter in Australia (at her house). I really don't want to interfere with this notoriety by bringing up these two little sweet puppies here in the States that I fully intend to go to 'pet homes' like yours. The reason I want them in pet homes is that we have worked very diligently for many years to establish our 'bloodline' of dogs and these would be a total 'outcross'. The father came from Oregon and is a bi blue color. So, in a nutshell, that is the story of the 'special circumstances'. I did hand raise these two little fellas so they are exceptionally affectionate and sweet and VERY in tune with people. They have had their first shot and check up, both passing with absolutely no problems. I don't expect any health problems at all either, both parents come from excellent bloodlines and have been tested for any health concern we have, they just don't have the pedigree that we have worked on.

We have no plans to show, breed, etc.....does the above seem reasonable? They're priced to cover breeder costs.
 
This is a good question I would love to know peoples opinion on.
I admit I want a really special sheltie, pretty, right markings etc. but I also know that I dont seem to come across pups like everyone else does so I wonder if my standards for my first sheltie will change as I get more impatient. I like the idea of using a good breeder especially some health issues. many I didnt know about till reading sheltie nation.
What makes you nervous about this situation?
 
I can't see having a non-AKC registered dog really meaning anything. Even if you wanted to sports with the dog, you could register the dog with AKC as a PAL/ILP dog and then do AKC sanctioned sports.

I'd have more questions for the breeder, but that's just me.
 
It sounds fishy to me, and I don't think any reputable breeder would ask someone to believe a story like that.
 
Will the person still give you information about the parentage? As she says she had both sire and dam then she should be able to give you all that information without a registration.

What do you know about the kennel? Not sure how it works over there, but in Aust I would still want to know the kennel names of both sire and dam, even if you aren't getting registration papers you should still be given this.

I'm not sure about the exporting to Australia issue - it's a big thing to import here as there are lengthy quarantine procedures from the US (Australia has the strictest quarantine laws in the world). So the sire would have to be of extremely high quality, with an impeccable pedigree, for someone to go to those lengths. And the more I think of it - dog's have to go through a 3mth quarantine, so would that allow enough time for it to have a litter there and a litter here?

And what does she mean about the dog being the sire of the first bi-coloured litter in Australia? Does she mean by the particular breeder that imported the dog as there are plenty of bi-s here.
 
If you know her kennel name, and the name of her dogs, I would ask if you could reach out to the sire's kennel and then email them.

But I agree--sounds fishy.

I wondered about that.

Seems seriously sketchy to me. You should at least be provided a full pedigree on the puppy, even without papers.
