Ticks

Last night I was watching tv and felt something crawling on my chest... grabbed it and took it to the bathroom for a look see and it was a tick!!
Today I got advantix and Diatomatious earth to spread in the yard and in the house- it is food grade so safe for Maggie and Zak.
I found a flea on my husbands shirt the other night after friends left with their two Shelties. So did they bring them? I have called my friend to tell her about the tick. Geesh I have never ever had ticks but they say with our overly dry weather they are worse than ever along with the fleas.
I hope to get the house treated tonight and them once my husband is home to entertain them while I work the stuff into the carpet.
I would love so chickens but we are in a neighborhood and I doubt it would go over very well with my neighbors.

Are you using treatment? I use K9 Advantix for Ticks and Fleas.

It doesn't deal with heartworm, however - you have to great that separate.

Since I've been using it, I've not seen a single vermint on the dogs in the lst 2 years. I highly recommend it.

Cheers

I hate them as well.We have never ever had such a problem as we have so far this year.
So far I have found one on Mia a couple of weeks ago,I got the vermit before he could burrow into her.I saw something on her, when I went out to carry her inside.at first it looked just like a speck of dirt, but once I tried swiping it away,it wasted no time to try to disappear onto her head. I got it out right away, and gave her a really good looking over to make sure there were no others.

Trapp also had one on him as well, but it was on the surface of his coat.HATE HATE the things.
They get body checks every day now, many times a day once they come in.

And no...the generic to Frontline DOES NOT WORK!!

Ticks are awful out here, so I sympathise. I live out in the country with woods surrounding my house, and was finding them on myself and the dogs daily

Oh! How I remember ticks from living in south Florida, You have my symathies. You have to constantly check for them. I used to use a shampoo called Adams, do not know if it is still around. It helped get everything of my little girl. Here in AZ since I do not live in the mountains I use Frontline Plus which is really precautionary, ticks really are not a problem.

By the way, our Gunineas are out in the back field at last, eating their little hearts out. We've had NO TICKS so far this year and are hoping that between the chickens and the Guinea fowl, we've reduced the problem.

I have never had ticks here in SW Florida. The summer we were in NY Meggie had SO MANY ticks I wanted to scream everyday. But no ticks here. Now I'm worried. I hope our dry spell doesn't mean I'll get ticks in the yard!

I agree with Barb, K9Advantix II is great. Pre K9 Advantix days, we went camping a few years ago, down to Big Sur (California) and our furkid came home with at least 25 ticks, buried under her arm pit, along her rib cage, in her ruff. They are nasty lil' buggers. I vowed never to put my little girl through that again. Even now, if she gets a glimpse of a pair of tweezers, she hides under the table.

Kudos for K9Advantix!!:biggrin2:
