Trust?

My dogs are always on leash when outside of the yard, just because they are dogs - dogs see something and run. This can happen no matter how well trained they are. It takes just a split second for something to happen. I have a fenced yard and yes there is a lock on the gate, just because years ago a nine-year-old neighbour girl decided she didn't like us and wanted to get back at us, opening the gate and letting out my Hamish. I found him but the trust in people was sorely tested.

I could not live with myself if I let my dogs go off leash and something happened to them or to someone else because of them.
