Two sorry shelties

Come next week I am going to have two sorry shelties...

They are going back to being crated when we're gone...and I mean it!

In the past 3 months Bentley has pooped in the house 4 times. I gave him a pass the first few times because of his stomach surgery, but no more! He just doesn't want to go when it's raining, and he thinks the carpet is a good second option. Ugh!

Lexi has recently started chewing on the molding around the pantry door (where the dog food is located). I noticed it about a week ago and just assumed it was from a previous resident (we're renting). Got home today to another spot and some "saw dust". We're going to move the dog food to a different location...but still! Ugh!
 
Yup, it's funny (and not funny "haha") how just when we think they've got it down pat and they know exactly what we expect from them, they manage to find something else to get into and the process has to start again!! :rolleyes2:

It's not like they're looking for ways to drive us nuts... they manage to come across them every once in a blue moon. :wink2:
 
I keep my dogs crated when we are gone. Aside from keeping the house safe, they feel safer. Usually they are very content in their crates. But, yesterday the gardener came while I was out. Lexi managed to undo the zipper on her soft crate and get out. That was a first! Now she gets the hard crate and Pyper gets the soft crate...

My Lexi can get out of a soft crate too. The first few times she undid the zipper, so I used a carabiner to "lock" it. The next time was fine, and the time after that she ripped a huge hole in the side :eek2:

So yep, back into the crate for both of them. They have both been doing so well since Lexi has matured some...but now they've both taken a step back!

I feel bad leaving them crated for 9 hours...but I don't know what else to do . They are already confined to the living room/kitchen!
 
They were definitely framed by Beamer!

Crating them is really the only thing you can do. Bailey was crated for 10 hours while I was at work. She does get a 30 minute walk with the dog walker though.

Personally, I don't like to crate for more than 5-6 hours without a break to stretch their legs. Can you leave them in an xpen? This way they'll have a little room to move around, but not enough room to go to the bathroom or chew anything?

Bailey is gated to my bedroom, but thankfully I've only returned home to her bed flipped over and some toys tossed around. If she did start having accidents or chewing, I would crate her again.

I only have one x-pen (though my sister is currently borrowing it), and I don't think I'd want to put both dogs in it. I think Bentley wouldn't be a big fan of that!

I'll have to think of a different solution...
 
Oh, Oh Bentley and Lexi, you should have listened to mom and dad! Don't feel too bad, Mikos and Brie have to be in crates when they are home alone too!
 
Do you have anyone who could come by and let them out for a break? My girls are almost never crated for more than 4-5 hours. On a rare occation that they have to be crated longer...my dad comes over and gives them a break.

I'm so glad my parents moved closer to me. It was supposed to be so I could help them out...but they help me at least as much as I help them.

No :( My sisters work full time just like me (and far away from where I live), and my neighbors (the only people around here that we know) work all day too.

Guess I will just have to cover the door to the pantry and hope that's good enough.
