I do the same thing with my kids.. Cali is a deep sleeper and I have found myself quite a few times shaking her to wake her up and make sure she was ok because she was so deep in snooze land!
Ever since my buddy lost his pup in the accident I have not been right. I worry about her running around and hurting herself.. I start freaking out if she sneezes.. when she misses that 3rd step (that she misses every day!) I always feel her legs to make sure there is no pain.. I am going to be a mess when I have human kids!
You will be one of the BEST father's when that day comes. Your furkids are prepping you..lol
I would have freaked out just like you. Stomach acids are incredible though, and the bone was not cooked. If it had been cooked...then that would be a bigger concern.
One time our sheltie Nicholas ate 27 1/2 inches of a nylon lead fully intact! I had just brought him home from his double hip surgery, and he was groggy so I carried him (which was NO easy task at 45lbs!..yes..he was a huge sheltie), laid him down in his playpen and didn't want to disturb him. I know better than to leave a leash on, but he was completely OUT. Well..I left the room for a short bit, and when I came back .. I found only the part of the slip collar that goes around his neck..still on his neck with the metal ring! I looked in a panic EVERYWHERE for the rest of the lead? It was a thinner one than I use on him..the hospital had put it on him. It was NOWHERE to be found. I called the hospital, and they had me bring him back for xrays. Nothing showed up. They assured me I was over-reacting and most likely he chewed it up and it would pass fine. They warned me what danger signs to look for. Well?? Early one morning...SIX WEEKS later...poor Nicholas was sleeping next to my bed in his crate. I heard him vomit, and quickly attended to him. In the darkness, I saw something in his crate with him? It was the nylon lead, all coiled up as if it had been wrapped around your hand and bundled up...and still in one long piece! So..to this day...I completely go nuts when anything happens. A simple tweaked little paw, and I'm ready to see a surgeon. Something missing in the house, and I'm in a panic somebody ATE it! lol
Again...it's good that the bone was not cooked. I'm sure all will come out perfectly fine. Maybe a little tummy ache though?lol
Sorry to ramble. After all our efforts with his hips, we lost Nic to Lymphoma @ age 3 in 6/07, and I tend to go on and on when something sparks a memory ;-).
