I use one as a last resort. And only after a bath and high velocity blow dry. So when all else fails......
But when I use, I use it like a slicker or pin brush and line brush only. I'm going after the loose underpants, not to strip healthy fur and guard coat. Use with caution is my only advice

Barb, why do you say use with caution, I've always assumed that it would be easier on the dogs since it has a bigger space between the bristles...

Is this going to strip healthy fur if overused? hone doesn't get to many knots, she has a short coat, but it does help loosen the fur that's shedding so the pin brush can actually grab it.
OK I have three shelties. Their brushing should be its own reality show.
