Ups and Downs with Yogi

So happy to hear that the surgery went well. Crossing my fingers that his recovery is quick and uneventful.

Give him a few pats from me!

Yogi is now back home, I went and picked him up this morning. Because they were quite busy, I was allowed out to see Yogi in the kennel. He immediatly got up and looked happy to see me.
The shaved area is much smaller than I was anticipating, he even has some of his 'trousers' left but has a long 5" wound on his right buttock, and the smaller castration wound. Rather than having to suffer the cone, they've given him a 'donut' which is much better as it will mean he's not catching it on the crate.
Obviously I had to bring what looks like a whole pharmacy home with him, I think I'm going to have to draw up a timetable/check list so as not to forget anything!
He's got to be restricted an awful lot over the next two weeks so I am bringing in the puppy pen so he has a bit more feedom rather than just being in the crate, but I have to stop him jumping around. Fortunatly he is crate trained, so I'm hoping he won't get too upset with his confinement. The difficulty is going to be stopping him getting bored when he starts feeling better.
Although he seems quite subdued while in his crate, he seems bright enough when out of it and is eating well so everything seems positive at this stage, just waiting for a poo now...

Oh boy... It brought tears to my eyes to hear that Yogi is bright and happy after his ordeal. A very good sign that he's going to be better than 100% after his recovery time. I'm soooooo happy for both of you! :biggrin2:

Give him a hug from Miko and me!!

I'm glad to hear that Yogi is home and doing well.

I can relate to the need for a timetable for medications. One of my previous shelties had a corneal ulcer and he was on so much medication that I did just that, there was no other way to keep track. This one two times a day, that one three times a day another four times a day, there were a couple that could not be given at the same time and had to have a certain amount of time between them. It was mind boggling.

I hope for a speedy and uneventful recovery so the poor little guy can get back to normal as quickly as possible.

I took Yogi out on the lead down the road last night and he did quite a lot of slightly squishy poo! Then this afternoon some more harder poo clap Seems just lately my happiness is dependant on what comes out of Yogi's backside!!Everything seems to be ok so far. I have him in the puppy pen, which he seems much happier in than his crate. Boredom is going to be a big issue later I can see. With the diet restrictions in place for the next month I might have to resort to filling a Kong with the i/d and giving it to him.
Back to the vet's tomorrow night for a post op check...

Oh boy,so glad to hear Yogi had a successful surgery and is on the road to mending! It is kinda funny to be so interested in their "output" but very necessary, especially in his case!

Asta is feeling much better and has been a brat about trying to take off her bandage. The cone just made her freeze, though - she wouldn't even move for a yummy treat with it on, so I don't think I can leave her with it on when I have to go back to work Tuesday.

It is definitely harder when they are feeling better, but must still be restricted with activity. You might try freezing some broth in the kong to keep him busy, if he's on easily cleanable flooring.

Keep us posted!

Sharon
