Ups and Downs with Yogi

Checking in to see the latest on Yogi. Sounds like you have a super vet taking care of him. Thanks to Dr. Shelli for all that info.

Tomorrow Yogi will probably look quite different but if it means he dosn't have to struggle to poo for 10 minutes like he did this morning, then it will definitly be worth it.
Watching the two of them racing around you wouldn't think one was 11 and the other needed essential surgery, but it made me feel a lot more positive about the outcome tomorrow..

Aren't you lucky to have such beautiful scenery to walk your dogs around in. I'd love to be one of your dogs, haha! Soooo pretty, the scenery and the dogs!

Julia, just catching up with this thread as I've been immersed in Asta's health issue!

I truly hope all goes well with the surgery, I know exactly how you feel as my stomach was in knots all day yesterday until they called me to say Asta was fine and it was just a fatty tumor. We can't help but worry about our furkids and it's so hard when you can't explain things to them. You feel bad about dropping off a sound dog and then picking up a very sore lame one in my case! Like they are thinking "Mom what did you let them do to me??"

Yogi sounds in very capable hands and I am sending lots of good wishes your way. Let us know how it goes.

GOOD NEWS!!

Yogi's operation has gone well and hopefully been sucessful!
Having dropped him off at 8.30 this morning and seen him happily trotting off with the nurse I felt pretty low. I didn't hear anything until 2 when the surgeon called to run through the operation with me. He sounded really nice and reassuring. Then it was a very long afternoon while I waited to hear something and I was just about to call after 6, when the vet called me and said all had gone well. He said it should have an 80% chance of not needing a second operation and everything going well. Having done the surgery he was more or less certain that all Yogi's problems have been caused by the perineal hernia, there was no sign of any colitis! They've used muscles from the same region to repair the hernia. The muscles on the right side were quite wasted and he described it as quite severe, but not extreemly so.
All being well I should be able to pick him up tomorrow and then it will be a case of keeping him quiet for two weeks (difficult) and two months on Lactulose (stool softners) after which he should be able to have a completly normal lifestyle and diet. I will always have to keep an eye open for signs of reoccurence, but was expecting that anyway.
The only concern is infection due to the location of the wound, so he will have quite a lot of antibiotics in the early days.
I am just so relieved that it is now over and looks really positive now for the future.

Happy to hear Yogi's surgery went well. Praying that it was successful and for a complete recovery. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Sounds like very good news! Hoping that this surgery has taken care of everything. Wishing Yogi the very best with recovery. I know that you will be delighted to get him home.

Oh I'm so glad to hear that Yogi's surgery was a success and that in a few short weeks he should be back to feeling 100%. I think of him often and sincerely hope that all his troubles are behind him. (LOL... sorry for the pun) :wink2:
