Westminster KC

Its funny when shopping for clothes for showing. You do the mandatory pocket check, ie does it have several pockets to store bait brushes toys etc.. Next question is this type of material something that will attract fur and or chalk, now if you pass those few tests you actually take it and try it on, followed by the dressing room test can I gait in this without killing myself and can I successfully bend over without showing my goods...:lol::eek2::uhoh:

So I only have a few show outfits that I hope are tasteful, with my black rubber-soled loafers, and my nude hose. I would like to find a pair of brown loafers but I havent come across a pair I like yet...its on the to-do list.

Now with all that said I do have to say Tofu Pup always has on the nicest show outfits on!!!!

And yes at Westminster there tends to be a little extra blingage displayed there, so its typically not what you see at your every weekend dog show outfits!
 
Tofu and lightplum, I'm sorry and didn't mean to offend anyone by posting the video. I just thought it was funny to think about the dogs showing the handlers.
 
Sorry, call me tasteless, but I thought that was the funniest thing I've seen since Best in Show. :lol:
 
I'm sorry, but where are Stacy and Clinton when you need them?

I found this show to be way less bling-y than say... the Collie National? There are some serious sequins going on there. AND the dogs in the top ten are always glittered for the top ten night, then they spend three days before Best of Breed trying to get the glitter out. :lol:

ah no, like I said, it's no one in particular. I literally grew up in this (sometimes-weird) dog show subculture, so I have a funny relationship with it. On the one hand, the yearly media blitz drives me crazy - once a year, the "rest of the world" remembers that dog shows exist, and makes noises about how odd our subculture is. But on the other hand, I spend the rest of the year wishing our subculture wasn't so weird (but loving and being a part of it anyways). :wink2:

True that! I have a very dressy "Westminster suit" that would be a bit much at any other show, even in BOB at the National (if we did BOB at 8:00 at night, it would work!) but is perfectly tasteful and appropriate (in my estimation) for the "green carpet".
 
I have to agree with tofupup. Yesterday, I wore a black skirt with black dress boots for the first time -- I'm normally a pants suit person. My knees don't look like they used to 30 years ago, LOL! (It was a long black skirt!)

In any event, I spent as much time grooming my skirt as my dog. Every time I picked her up I had a lovely white chalk mark on the darn thing! Or white fur...or schmutz. It might look nicer to the judges and it was surprisingly comfortable, but completely impractical!
 
I too, did not mean to offend, but I just couldn't help noticing just how drastically out of fashion some of these suits are. But like Rachel, I kept thinking about "What not to wear"!

Ok, so maybe black is not the most practical of colours. But honestly....NO ONE can look good in neon pink from head to toe!

Say yes, to the nude hose and the skirts at or just above the knee. Most flattering for any body shape. I can see the handler wanting to stand out....maybe that's why the neon pinks????

Years ago, I bought a couple of very good quality skirt suits made with cotton and lycra so that they move with you. I've had them now for almost 10 years and they never seem to go out of style. I think I may have found a niche market.... fashionable clothing for the dog handler! Hmmmmm!

I've been Linda's assistant on and off throughout Gabe's career. I was lucky enough to be there at Westminster this year! Thank you to everyone for the lovely comments on Gabe. We really like him a lot and he has been doing so well.

For everyone's concerns about his tail, it is correct. It's not short. It reaches his hock. And he does not have a gay tail. His tail is perfectly fine. It becomes faulted when the tail breaks over the back. His does not.

And yes, the judge Lynette Saltzman (sorry if I spelt that wrong) used to own and breed shelties. We thought Gabe should have at least got pulled if not placed, but the groups before Herding went over their time limit, so of course, Herding was cut short. Linda said that the judge looked over at her and did a double take, but since the show can't go over to network time, she was rushed and got flustered. Maybe if she wasn't being rushed, Gabe would have been considered more. But we were very happy with his performance, and very thankful for his breed win.

In 1997, Linda won with Ch. Zion's Man About Town. So it was exciting to see her back at Westminster. I am so thankful I have been able to work for her and be mentored by her.

If you watch the breed video online, you can see me ring side in a black and white jacket with blonde hair :P
