What Breed To Get???

OK not a Fred but maybe a Jazz. I don't think she had a drop of Lab blood in her. Jrt/Beagle. 33 lbs the JRT made her alittle intense sometimes but she was sweet sweet sweet. I looked into getting a purebred Beagle at one point but if you think Shelties are barkers. Hound bay=annoying. Jazz however, almost never barked.

The humane societies are full of small mixed breeds(we get lots of Beagle mixes) that would make wonderful pets.

Note about photo: No dogs were injured, just my two girls talking to each other and they do it every night! Kind of look like gremlins who got into the water after midnight, doncha think? Can't let Fred be the only scary doggie in the window!!

Whenever Koji yaws real big and I can see all his teeth, I say to him, "my grandma, what big teeth you have" and then he cocks his head and looks at me like I'm crazy. LOL

luckily Happy did not bay- he had the beagle bark though. I don't like baying either...... so I was very glad that he did not do that beagley thing.

Okay, Beagle is out. I'm thinking and he's thinking Lab mix.
I think that because he's basically basing almost all the dogs off of their "bad traits". That or he REALLY loved his Lab. Which I don't blame him, I'm kinda biased towards Shelties myself.
 
If I couldn't handle a big dog, ok it would be a sheltie. If not a sheltie a
Cardigan Corgi.

Llewelyn setters are smaller and adorable too.
 
My vote would be for the English Cocker Spaniel. I have three friends that raise them and have met many of their pet clients. Awesome dogs with children and sweet, affectionate personalities with so much charm. Yes, they do require grooming that is very easy to keep up and yes they shed but they are the right size for house or apartment and are easily trained to do almost anything. They standard says 15 - 17" at the shoulder and weight of 26 - 34 lbs. When I asked the sister of one of my EC friends how she would describe them she said "they want to be with you whether you go on a long hike or want to curl up with a book". Make sure you go to a reputable breeder that does the required testing on breeding stock. If they decide to go this route I could get names of people to speak to as my pals are well known internationally in the breed and have really high standards on what they will breed to and from.

I looked up the setters. They still average 35-65 pounds (m/f). I think that's a bit much. But thanks.

I will throw this out to him. I don't think we offered it up. He may be utterly afraid of all that hair though. I mean, he's already shot down a Sheltie and they need weekly simple grooming (maybe a bit more when they're shedding).
