What is your puppy chewing on?

Table legs are not appropriate. :smile2:

I'm trying several different objects and textures, does your puppy have a favorite? (paper is a favorite here, followed by shoes and clothes, and the legs of my Grandmothers rocking chair :eek2: !)

40+ stuffed toys, several fleece beds, Shay & Melody.

Cubby is not a chewer, though he spent all his little-one time on the couch chewing on kongs, stuffed toys, and a sock with a knot in the middle.

Well, Sparta just lost her second tooth, so... everything?
Anything wooden. Metal wire, especially her crate (I've woken up to this sight so many times now, I'm almost used to it.) Paper, especially books, shoelaces... Oh, and Junior, of course.

If you meant things she's allowed to chew, we always have a supply of rawhide (although I'll be honest, I'm very snobby about the origins of all her meat-related products), and she has recently discovered her rope toy. She hasn't really been a chewer, but these past couple of weeks it's been crazy.

Pups love to chew, but when you catch them chewing contraband substances you've got to really crack down on them.

Chew crazy

My pup will chew on just about anything. I've been making homemade chew toys for him to curb the need to eat my oak chairs and new carpet :uhoh:

I tied a knot in a wash cloth, soaked it in chicken broth, and froze it. This is one of his favorites.

I freeze tablespoon size cubes of pumpkin, lay it on a towel and let him go at it.

I squeeze the air out of water bottles, THROW AWAY THE LID, stick a treat inside, then cover it with a clean old sock. He really loves the crunching.

I put treats in a clean empty milk jug, squeeze out all the air and THROW AWAY THE LID, then watch him go at it until he gets his treats.

Emphasis on disposing the lid because it can be a choking hazard. :smile2:

Mozart finds wicker baskets and a wooden gate I use to keep him out of my bedroom as his favorites. I've decided to allow those things with the hope he refrains from the furniture but I catch him testing occassionally but so far so good. We work on "leave" and that has made a difference. I also don't let him out of my site for long. Lot's of toys I think will help the teething. Ice cubes go over well too. In the beginning magazines were a big draw so I don't drop important papers but again that's subsided but with him being only 5 months, I have a long way to go. Puppy teething ring treats or a piece of pigs ear if I'm really desperate for a moment.

My previous sheltie Buddy only chewed on kleenex and toilet paper , nothing else. I had no idea how lucky we were that he was not a chewer.

Now for 9 month old Bailey.....everything:gaah

Shoes seem to be his favorite, baseboards, the chips in th bottom of my plants, coasters, my computer cord, cat toys ( mutulated), carpets, not to name paper, toilet paper, kleenex etc...!! Anything that he can find, he chews. Outside its leaves, sticks and any garbage he grabs before we can yell "LEAVE IT"!! He tried chewing on our good dining table & chair legs once & he was yelled at quite abruptly & it scared him ,he hasn't tried that one recently.

His shoe fetish :eek2: is much better probably because we hide all our shoes & if we catch him we yell NO!! at hiim. We sprayed the carpet runners ( at the edges where he was chewing) & the baseboard corners with the bitter no chew spray & it has been much better. We just have to warn anyone that comes to our house to hide their shoes & don't leave any bags or purses laying around on the floor !!

I think he is actually getting better because we are always yelling NO or LEAVE IT! at him & he is starting to get it. He loves his chew toys so I make sure there are plenty on the main floor ( which is the only floor he is allowed on right now) I have bought many chew toys for him & make sure I stuff one in his mouth when he goes for something else:yes:

Let's hope this settles down soon, he has ruined 4 pairs of my shoes so far :-o

Thanks for the tips and commiserate experiences shared. Will try several of these ideas! Have a frozen half bagel to try later this am, he's actually napping right now. And here I am on the computer instead of cleaning up from free range roving puppy at 4:00 am... he needed to go out so, I opened back door and sat on sofa, fell asleep and woke up to mass puppy Mahem all over the floor... he ate my book, obedience training for the small dog... got into the knitting pattern project book, stole my eyegkasses, and the green ribbon (one of several) that Justus won yesterday.... obviously I need to puppy proof better....

chew

Chip is on a track to chew most anything. Doesn't bother computer or TV cords, electric, shoes? maybe a slipper if left in the open. He can shred any paper or box like nothing you have seen. Will drag a wash cloth or towel out of clothes basket but doesn't mutilate them. Wife drinks a plastic cup of V-8 juice every morning, Chip loves to carry the cup all over the house or shop then licks it clean. Toilet paper, kleenex, and anything that is in an open waste basket.

Outside? Anything, including bird droppings. We have a million Black Walnuts in the front yard I haven't had time to pick up, he doesn't bother them thank heaven. Everything else is open season. We are blaming it on boredom since we aren't in the yard as much now. Going to split some wood this afternoon so he will be with me then.

From past experience it is a phase but we are ready for it to pass. LOL
