Where's my coat?!

So now that we have Mikos lip under control I am wondering when he may start to get a real sheltie coat that is even all over. He is 16.5 months old and he has reasonable pants and has some ruff but only has about 100 hairs long hairs on his tummy. Here is a photo of him that we took tonight (against his will).

It just seemed funny that he has a few really long hairs and the rest is still short. Does the sheltie coat normally come in evenly or is Mikos shaggy look also common at his age?

I thought my Neechee would NEVER get his coat. Then suddenly, one day at obedience class, my trainer said, "Hey, Neechee finally looks like a Sheltie now!" He was approaching his THIRD BIRTHDAY. <sigh>

Pretty typical of that age. Some get it earlier than others.

She is massive puffy butt now.
http://www.sheltieforums.com/album.php?albumid=171&pictureid=3462 Sorry don't have a good standing one.

WOW! Puffy was an understatement, she is beautiful!

I guess there is hope for my little boy!

My boys are 3.5 now and I'm still waiting for Bacca's full coat.

But I'm actually thankful about it because he doesn't really shed! Indy is exactly the same age (1 week apart) but he has full undercoat and a huge ruff. He doesn't really shed either, but holds it all in until I pull it out (see the thread in Grooming where we posted pictures of the fur we pulled out of our pups!)

Here are Indy and Bacca now at 3.5 years. It's not their best picture, but you'll get the idea....Neither one of them has grown the long guard hair that sweeps the ground like the show Sheltie photo's! Part of this is due to bad grooming. Beware a groomer that wants to trim the guard hair!

They are very handsome boys Barb! Nice feathery legs too!

Thank you!

Both of them are finally getting nice feathers on their legs, but the hair on their bodies remains short. I keep hoping it will grow in. My comment on the groomer stands....never let them trim anything but poop chutes (and only directly down the line) and feet (no legs). Unless, of course, your groomer also happens to specialize in Shelties.

I found a picture of my forever pup at about the same age.....now that was a coat!
