Worried about her nails

A little over a week ago, I found some blood near my sheltie's nail bed. I thought she had scratched herself somehow, no big deal, so I put some betadine on it. Well now it looks like her nail may be coming off. I scheduled an appointment with the vet, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if anyone's seen something like this before.

Here's what it looked like a few days ago.

And I took this one today... It looks like her quick is receding into the nail here.

A few other nails look like they're starting to do the same thing, so I put betadine on those too. I'm so worried, I hope it's nothing serious. :( I will find out on Monday, but I was just curious if anyone's seen something like this.
 
I'm sorry, I haven't heard of this before. My Pixie had some cysts on a few of her pads a few years ago but we haven't had any nail problems. I'm sure your vet can give you some answers. I hope it's something simple. Please let us know how she is!
 
There's definitely something not right going on there. Good catch -- the vet should know what to do!
 
Thank you both. I will let you know what the vet has to say tomorrow. At least it doesn't seem to be causing her discomfort. I'm sure she would like to get back to our normal routine though, I know I would. :smile2:

I've never heard of cysts on the pads, ouch! I hope Pixie is doing okay now.

SLO is what I was afraid of. :( It doesn't sound like an easy thing to treat. Interestingly I just took her off salmon oil when this started.
 
I Googled Symmetric Lupoid Onychodystrophy and what I saw was very shocking. One of the dogs that had this looked like one of Sarah's nails (mom's dog). I was just looking at it last night when I was trimming her paws! There's no blood and it doesn't appear that the quick is reseeding. Pleas let us know how your baby is doing! Maybe it will help both our dogs.

So the vet ended up finding some yeast after swabbing one of her affected nails, and gave me some medication for it, and some wipes. I guess that's better than an autoimmune disease, I'm just confused how a yeast infection could cause the whole nail to start coming off. Everyone in the clinic looked pretty surprised by it.

I hope once it's gone, it doesn't come back. :fl
