Worst birthday ever

Hi this is Ember here,

Today is my 6th birthday. It has been the worst birthday ever! My mom was brushing me last night and says my breath smelled like a squirrel crawled in my mouth and died. Then she loaded me up into the car this morning. Her and Auntie Rachel stuck this needle in my neck, put this tube in my arm and then poked me with a needle. I don't remember what happened next but next thing I know my mouth feels all weird and kinda hurts. My mom says I bad abscessed tooth and it needed to come out. I still feel sort of woosy and tired. Worse part is mom got me a birthday bisquit and some bullies and I can't eat them! This is sheltie abuse!

Hi Dr. Shelli here, Ember had an abscessed molar, way back on the lower left side. No signs(she was still crunching down her chicken) except the smell and she was dropping her metal artilce this week in practice and the gloves. Ember usually has a death grip on things when she retrieves so it was weird. I really couldn't see how bad the tooth was until I got her knocked out and it was bad. She had some pain meds and is on antibiotics. She got a new bed so she is enjoying it and the food treats will wait til later until her mouth is healed. I feel bad it was her birthday but she'll thank me in the long run.

Ima Barker here.....while the Sheltie Union does appreciate the fact that you did indeed improve your Sheltie's health and have done everything humanly possible to help her past this health crisis--i.e., soft bed, pain meds, anitbiotics and excellent medical care--we do have strong objections to the crude phrasing of the smell of Sister Ember's breath. Comparing her breath to smelling "like a squirrel crawled in my[her] mouth and died," while colorful, could be considered too blunt for our sensitive breed. A phrase such as "her breath was less than stellar" or "medically suspect" would be appreciated in the future.

By the way, according to some (not dogs in general or Shelties in particular), we have been informed that even squirrels have feelings. However, this is subject to debate and has not been thoroughly investigated enough to rule on here.

I'm worried. Its my birthday soon and I dont want a needle. Maybe its just as well mum forgot my bday last year. Oh dear, think I'll go hide under the rose bush until Thursday.

Jeez....What is it with our Mom's and needles. I had one yesterday and this morning followed by a hump on my back. I am so sorry your mouth is sore especially on your birthday. I sure hope your Mom is making special pupcakes for when you're better. Hugs to you Ember from Gypsy and My Mom the meanie with the needles. :eek2:

Happy Birthday Ember....

Happy Birthday Ember- sorry you had such a horrible birthday but think of how good you will feel soon and be able to really enjoy that bone. You are so lucky to have a dr. for a mom.

Ember, we feel really sorry for you. Ask your Mom if you can have a birthday do-over. Have lots of treats and toys, too -- and a walk in a place with squirrels so you can get REAL dead squirrel breath!
