Oh yes. They have a bark for everything. Hello, let me out, pet me, what's that. Ember has her the cat is doing something he shouln't bark, Diva has a demanding bark when she wants me to throw the ball and the hurry up slow poke bark went I'm too slow for her in agility. Justice even has his confused bark when he is barking because the fool girls are barking and he doesn't know why, complete with quick glances back towards me like "do you know why we're barking?" Plus many others.

This is true...except in Bentley's case, it's not much help. He has an emergency bark, but unfortunately, the mailman is an emergency, so is a trash can sitting in a funny place, a cat in the yard, etc

So true! Indy has two barks:
1) Squirrels, mink, lawnmowers, hairdryers, dog walking by, I'm hungry, feed me are all emergencies!!!! Sounds like: "Rar, rar, rar, rar, rar"
2) Love me, pet me, pay attention to me, rub my belly. Sounds like "yip, yip, yip...with a little teeth chattering in between.

THe receptionist at the vet's I took Noah too commented on how much Shelties liked to bark. Her boyfriend's grandmother lived next door to people who rescued Shelties and I guess they barked a lot. I said no, Noah didn't bark a lot. Neither does Emma. But reading everyone else's post, I wonder if I should be getting Emma to bark more!! On second thought, I think I'll leave her just as she is. She has such a funny little bark.

. Shelties don't need any encouragement to bark if you do you'll be sorry.Roscoe has really come into his bark in the last couple weeks... Unfortunatley. He barks at the cat, he barks at the rabbit, he barks at the vaccume, our other 2 dogs, a suspicious cardboard box, the broom, you get the picture. Luckily Gracie our rat terrier is a barker though hers is a "intruder alert" bark. But intruder can mean any slight noise (real or imagined) or the neighbor across the street in their own yard. So lots of barking. We do discourage it, spray bottle works quite well. Roscoe also makes many interesting yips, groans, whines, and grumbles. He's goofy. All 3 of our dogs make goofy noises though.

A single sharp bark that is meant to make me stop whatever and be Sca focused, I think I hear less out of one ear now from this one and yes he gets in trouble for it.

Her barks are different depending on the situation
She has a bark for people or things that shouldn't be outside (we call it the mean bark)
She has a protesting bark (if she gets corrected or reprimanded and she dislikes it)
She has an angry bark (if we go downstairs without her)
She has a provocative bark (if she wants to set off the other dogs)
And finally she has her excited / happy bark when I get home after work.
Depending on the kind of bark she does, some are more annoying than others. The ones that I dislike the most are the protesting and provocative barks. They are very loud and crisp, while the others are lower pitched or softer.
