Your FAVORITE training treat? Help!

I use Zuke's Mini Naturals also. Edan and CJ both love them. I also take some string cheese as a high value reward. I only give them string cheese when they figure out something new or difficult they've been working on. This reduces the amount of cheese they consume in a session.

Definitely the Zukes.

They are very small....but even when Bacca was still 6 months, I still cut them into quarters and halves.

When training you want lots of treats, but you don't want to fill them up too fast, otherwise they lose interest.

Stacey, do they last/stay in a piece in the heat? I ask because there are some foods that sort of melt/disintegrate when we're out at the agility field for awhile (we can't use cheese because of it)

I've used them before, and they do stay in shape. They are also great because you can cut them to whatever size you want. They were always my go to training treat, sadly Gibbs hates them.

I buy a hunk of meat (beef, lamb, chicken, pork, anything really) and throw it into the oven. When cooked and cooled, I cut it into strips and freeze in airtight containers. When I need them I thaw and if I'm feeling good I reheat.

It's healthy (coz it's just meat) and cheap (esp if you get the quick sale meats and cook it the same day) and tasty! Juliet eats anything anywhere but store bought treats aren't high value to Romeo sadly.

I also use the natural balance rolls, Saidy goes nuts for them. I cut them up very small for training and cut a few a little larger for treats.

That's what I've started doing. Way cheaper than store brought treats and much healthier without the preservatives.

Diva issues with a lot of semi soft treats and she is great with just meat and liver. Plus like you said they are higher value.

Pizza or peanut butter cup ice cream usually does the trick.

Wait, did you mean for the dogs? ;)

It's funny you mention cheese, anything dairy makes Fiona incredibly sick.

I hear ya about the popcorn though, she'd climb the house for popcorn!

Lucy loves the sweet potato crisps I made from a recipe posted here a few weeks ago.

When I was training Vash I had a whole list of treats that worked pretty well.

1) Hot dogs. - Super high reward treats, theres a recipie on the internet that will tell you how to dehydrate them in the microwave.
2) Cheese sticks - Good, but they get kind of gooey if you don't keep them cool.

3) Zukes Mini's - My pup liked them a lot.

4) Puparoni - I know it's not the best treat ever, but the pup likes them. I buy a bag and cut them into bite sized peices with a knife about the same size as a zukes treat.

5) Pet botanics has some training treats that the pup seems to like too.

I use the Natural Balance rolls. I chop them up into little pieces and the rest that I know won't be used for a while I will put them in the freezer.

Miko would do just about anything for a Zuke's Mini Naturals - Salmon... seriously, I think I could teach him to run the vacuum using those treats!!! :wink2:
