Zephyr does not cuddle.

Maggie used to like to lay beside us and still does in bed but she is not a cuddler at all, likes to be petted but does not like to be cuddled and hugged. She likes her attention in the morning in bed.
Zak is my cuddler, loves to lay close with his head on my lap or with his head across my feet. I often wake up with him sharing my pillow.

My two are the ultimate cuddlers! And my shelties (and cats) have always been cuddlers.
Not that they were always cuddlers. As adolescents they both didn't want to be held, but I persisted. I figure if you can teach a dog to enjoy sitting, shaking hands and walking on lead you can definately teach a dog to enjoy cuddles. Deska was a master at squirming out of my arms, but I kept picking him up anyway and eventually he relented. Nowadays he cuddles everyone in sight. Tully was easier because she just copied Deska.
If you really want a cuddler, keep persisting.

Ours are all cuddly in the morning, especially wanting face rubs. But after that? Forget it!
Both Annie Laurie and Layla like to be o nthe bed while DH and I are reading, but usually both leave for most of the night. Frequently one or the other will pop back up in the wee hours, but for the most part, they're all content to be "with" but not "on."

None of my Shelties, boys or girls, have been cuddlers until Checkers. She loves to cuddle with me, and will snuggle against me on the couch or the bed.
It's funny....as Ontario said, Pixie has never been a cuddler but after Checkers came, she suddenly decided I was HER person so now she'll jump up on the couch and lay in Checkers' spot next to me. And when Checkers cuddles with me Pixie lays on the floor giving me the stink eye. They are so funny and transparent!

Thats funny! Just last night Sadie and Ginny were fighting over me. Sadie was cuddling with me and left so Ginny jumped up and cuddled up to my legs (I was on the couch, lying on my side, Ginny behind my legs.
Sadie saw that Ginny took HER spot and decided she wanted it back. Sadie usually cuddles up to my belly, in front of my legs but she wanted to get rid of Ginny so she climbed up on top of me and lied down on my hip with her feet in Ginny's face. Too funny!
I have had three Shelties spanning 30 plus years. The first two were loving, gentle, sweet, but not cuddlers at all. Those two HAD to be int he same room at all times, however.
Ellie is the ultimate cuddler. She loves watching TV together. She loves to get in my face for attention. Hoever, it is always HER idea. If you bug her too much when it is not HER idea, she will get up and leave. It's rare, but it happens.

Mally is no cuddler
Mally is not a cuddler. I know he loves us, though.
He will give kisses. And will lie next to you on the couch. (he wants to be with you, but most times at a little bit of a distance.)
We watched a friend's dog and this dog is really affectionate. I did not know what to do at first when she jumped in my lap. Was not used to this.
I am so used to Mally's "standoffishness". To me Mally is just affectionate enough. Mally has "my heart" anyway!

Annie Laurie will jump up beside me and sit in upright profile -- she wants kisses on the cheek! So funny. "I'm ready for my kisses now, Mommy."

Well, I'm lucky and ended up with one of each. Ally is decidedly non-cuddly. She hates being picked up or hugged. LOVES belly rubs though. She's happiest on the bed or couch near us but not next to us, usually.
Asta on the other hand, she loves to be cuddled. She and I have some wonderful laptime in the recliner. She just stretches out across me with her head on the armrest and immediately goes to sleep. I love it. Our first Sheltie Skye was a medium cuddler, but definitely had to lay against your legs on the bed.
