Angry......:'/

I got a text message from my brother at home, "Precious pooped diarrhea everywhere......". As soon as I read it, worried, I called him.

I don't know what was wrong with her today but this morning, I woke up to the smell of diarrhea in my room. It's not the best thing to wake up to but as I cleaned it I realized it was a bit wet and bit mucusy. She seemed upset when I found it, the startled sound of my voice. But I didn't say anything much else, wondered why the change in stool and just cleaned her up, cleaned the poop and stains out of the carpet and sprayed air freshner around and continued on sleeping.

After that, when my brother texted me I was at school. I said, oh no! She had that this morning as well, I just thought it was odd but I didn't know she'd continue feeling sick. I told him where the nature's miracle spray was, in which cupboard. To pick up the big pieces, spray on area, clean up the carpet. And also to lift her tail and see if she got any on her self, with diarehha she tends to and I'd hate to have her spread the poop around if she got it on her paws or if she sat down anywhere.

Well, after leaving much detailed instructions on the phone, telling him do what you can and I'll try to be home as soon as I can. That "as soon as I can" with my last tutorial, plus bus traffic, plus walking home in the freezing cold. I got home now, 3-4 hours later.

I was PISSED. I come home, my bed room is closed. But before I go in, I see poop stains on the carpet. I'm thinking what the hell? Why didn't anyone clean it up. I open my door, and Precious is usually very excited when I get home but she just looked defeated and had her ears to her head and was sitting down on my bed, not even getting up to walk towards me. I said "hey.... Precious, you okay?" and walked up to her to pet her. I lifted her up into stand so I could see her bottom. Even without lifting her tail yet I could see poop bits stuck on her fur around her hind legs and her back paws. I lifted and could see a mess. I go back outside and look at the other parts of the carpeted rooms and notice more stains in my parents room. She diarehhad literally everywhere. But why was I angry and pissed? HOW could my brother let her sit in her own **** for the last 3-4 hours after having discovered her being sick. How could he just shut her in to my bed room, thinking she'll be okay until I got home. She's been sitting uncomfrotably with the smell of **** all around here for the past few hours.... I was beyond pissed. And to even think he didn't even try to get all the stains out in the carpet. I yelled at him and asked him what was wrong with him, you didn't do a single thing I asked you to. How could you leave things like this. He gave me a half-assed response saying "well I tried and the stains didn't come out, what do you want from me?". And I was VERY... VERY angry because he didn't even bother looking at Precious at all like I had asked.

Siblings are siblings. Family is family. But things like this make me realize very very quickly how I am very much the only real person that deeply cares about Precious. That the only reason they put up with her is because of my love for her. I was muttering under my breathe how sorry I was after I picked Precious up and cleaned her butt and legs under the shower head. You know when it's love when you can pick poop off their butt...... I didn't think it was too much to ask to clean her up.... =/ I just hope she starts feeling better.... I'm just upset she was left like that while I was in school =/

ohhh sorry to hear about precious!!!! I know first hand how frustrating it can be when you depend on someone to take care of your dogs and you entrust them with their care and they drop the ball... I could write a book I swear!

I hope Precious is feeling better...poor thing she must have thought she was in trouble for something she couldnt help...give her an extra hug and some love and she'll be ok...

Put her on rice and boiled chicken for a few days to give her intestins a rest. The poor baby, her tummy must be very upset!!

I have no idea why. Her food hasn't changed. She hasn't gotten any treats in the past few weeks, just her kibble. She did throw up/gag once too between the two diarrehas (morning and night), around the afternoon. The only thing I noticed today were those stomach gurgles I've asked on a thread once before. Where her stomach sounds really loud, and I can hear it from a few feet away. If this was normal? And she gets scared by her own stomach noises and tries to sniff her gut. That was the only odd thing that came up at the same time, the only connected thing I can think of. =/

I definitely gave her lots and lots of hugs and lots and lots of apologies. Ever get that feeling when you feel like you just let your dog down? I felt like that today. I hate it when I realized I wasn't able to be home for her when she needed me most. She was so happy after I washed her up, she groomed her legs to dry off the remaining wetness after her shower for a couple of minutes before falling asleep at my feet. I was just glad she got to get comfortable and sit, makes my blood boil thinking she had to uncomfortable sit with the stench of her own poop while I wasn't here........ =/ Yah, I'm still pretty upset about the situation..... If it was a small deal, I'd understand. But if you're home, and you see a sick dog, for whatever reason, it's just not human to ignore it. No matter how busy you are. He wasn't busy at all. There just aren't any excuses. Other than he got lazy. And that isn't acceptable. It does hurt when they drop the ball on you like that... If he told me to begin with he had no interest in taking care of her over this tonight, I wouldve come right home. I care more about my Precious than missing out on one tutorial out of a whole year, but he told me otherwise that he'd take care of it until I got there.. Bleh, I feel like I was deceived in a way?..

I just dealt with this recently, the runs that is. Make sure to put her on a mini fast for like 10-12 hours before feeding again. Right before bed is best since she will be asleep. It will ensure a good tummy rest. Also vinegar and water is my best friend. I scrubbed my carpets first clean and then sprayed it. Ice cubes are good for dehydration. My boy didn't want to drink any water at all so it helped.

She might have gotten a hold of some human food, perhaps from your family by accident? Also check her food bag to see if there is anything off with it.

So sorry--poor Precious.

The good thing is that dogs have short memories. She won't hold it against you or your brother.

I've come to realize that no one--no matter how detailed my instructions--will take care of my dogs the way that I do. It's a combination of things...some people aren't dog people, some people just don't think about it, and sometimes the connection you have with your dog just can't be emulated (like I wonder if friends/family would understand what this bark means, or that look means, etc...) I've had friends come over and try to play with our dogs, and I just laugh because they "aren't doing it right" and the dogs don't get it

I know it's hard, but I wouldn't get too mad at your brother. He doesn't get it. Once you've calmed down just tell him how it made you feel that he didn't listen to your instructions. Let him know that it made you sad to see Precious sitting in discomfort all day. I know you shouldn't really cater the way you act towards others, but keep in mind that he doesn't have the relationship with Precious that you do, so try to speak in more general terms.

I remember once we left Bentley with my IL's. They loved having him and I am confident that he was well taken care of. He slept in their bed and I'm sure got loads of treats (:rolleyes2:). But we picked him up and his eyes were FULL of eye boogers. Obviously "clean out eye boogers" was not on my list of instructions, but I was really upset that they didn't see them. They were huge! I kept feeling bad for Bentley and couldn't believe they didn't do something about them.

And then I realized, they never even thought about it. They aren't dog people. I clean the dogs' eyes out every day, but how would they know that? I just had to let it go once I realized that we just see things from a very different perspective when it comes to a dog's care. (For example, I would NEVER admit to my mom that I took the dogs to a chiropractor. Not that I'm embarrassed, it just isn't work the argument/explanations!)

Awe, poor Precious :(. I think we all know how you feel when you entrust a family or friend who you think will at least take basic care of your pet and they don't

Here's hoping and praying Precious starts to feel better and you can make amends with your brother :rolleyes2:

Something to think about ---

The symptoms you describe are virtually identical to symptoms we experienced with our Robby. For the first year he was with us he had those mucus stools, often like diarrhea, about once a month. His stomach gurgles were so loud that it would awaken us at night. Although we had him on a good food, and took him to the vet who put us on a prescription diet, he kept on having these episodes along with the stomach growling. We were very frustrated and didn't know what to do. I am an avid reader of Sheltie Forums, and came across a discussion concerning the fact that some Shelties develop/maybe are born with, a grain intolerance. I decided to put Robby on a grain free food (we use Natural Balance - primarily sweet potato and venison), along with the Vibrant Pets supplement. The symptoms immediately disappeared and he has been free of the problems for nearly two years. I am not a vet, and cannot say that the problem Precious has is the same as what Robby had, but I think it would be a good idea to check it out. I think our vet was as pleasantly surprised by the results we got as we were. I sincerely hope this will help. Kind regards, Will
