Bailey's Chihuahua is getting surgery tomorrow

Ivy had a huge lump removed from her back leg about two years ago that took stitches all the way up, it was so large. It's a tough spot for them but they do also heal pretty quickly there. Crating her is a good idea for her own good, the more she rests, the faster she'll heal. I hope Cali improves soon and feels better!

It is a very tough spot because there isn't much fat there. That's why the vet wanted to remove it as soon as possible. If it got any bigger, it would've been very hard to close up. We had no argument there. We brought her there expecting to get it removed.

Update

Cali is doing much better. She's even started to put a little weight on her leg today. We've been crating her for a few hours a day to try and limit her activity.

The first day, Bailey was not considerate and bothered her. However, the past few days, Bailey has been much more in tune and hasn't bothered Cali at all.

Cali's bandages were a little tight after the surgery. Her paw looked a little swollen, so we brought her back in on Friday and they re-wrapped it. Yesterday, the bandage started to come over. I think Cali started chewing on it. By the time we realized it, the vet had already closed and they are closed on Sundays. So, I went to CVS and bought some bandages. I wrapped it myself. It's held up nicely. We are bringing her back in on Saturday to get the stitches and staple removed.

Glad to hear the good news!

Glad that little Cali is doing better. Keep up the healing Cali you'll be running around with Bailey soon enough. Thanks for the update !

Update

Cali got her stitches removed on Saturday. She walks fine, but will pick up her leg when she is standing still. It was also very red last night. I think she has been licking it. Although, it wasn't as red this morning. Probably because she didn't lick it while she was sleeping.

We started giving her painkillers again and are going to put the cone of shame on her, so she stops licking it. The vet doesn't want it to get infected.

Cali probably feels some tug from the suture -- hence the leg thing. Good idea to keep her from licking for a while. Bits had to go back in because she overdid.
