Baker says hello!

Here's my little monster!

shhhhhhh...he's napping now... :sleepy:

LOL They are always so adorable when napping! I am jealous...all my current shelties are HUGE...Baker is so precious...the perfect cuddle size.

How adorable is that?? He wouldn't be on the floor much--how could you resist sweeping him up for a kiss?

I know, it's so tempting! I have to really stop myself because he will be crated some during the day, and needs to learn to entertain himself. It's just so darn cute because he's retrieving like a pro & has the tiniest little growl when playing tug...

This schedule thing is going to be a challenge. He didn't poop after noon lunch until 5:45 - just before supper. I fed him in his crate, he ate most of it & decided to curl up & take a nap... I suppose that works for us since hubby now can throw something together for us to eat.

OK, as prepared as I thought I was I feel like a teenager with a new baby...

I am so very happy that Baker likes his crate & puts himself there on his own. But tonight, after several long naps during the day, he insisted on going to bed at 8:00pm. He hadn't pooped after 6:00 supper yet, so I kept trying to get him to play with toys, run around in the yard. As soon as I turned away he was back in his crate, curled up & ready to sleep. I finally stopped fighting him & shut the door, dropped the cover. The alarm is set to take him out at 1.

As far as his crate size - I did find the divider today so was able to narrow his space. But he is so darn tiny, even the narrow area allows him room to make one "end" a bathroom if he desires. I'm hoping that won't be the case tonight.

Should I wake him & take him before then? Maybe 11:00? I was planning to go to bed around 10:30...wake him then???

He already has me wrapped around his tiny paws, doesn't he...:gaah

Cubby has the muy largo crate (42 x 28) as it is a throwback to the shepherd. No divider. Fleece pad. No accidents in the crate. He does bark if he needs to go out, a rather shrill urgent bark.

I would wake him and take him out. I am finding that if I wake Cubby at 1 for potty he falls back asleep instantly when put back.

The bowel movement cycle will regularize. In a week I have learned the pattern.

Kristie, even with my adults I always do one final outside time just before bed. Rather than set the alarm and ruin your night's sleep I would definitely try the last bedtime outside routine...then if he still can't make it through the night you can resort to the middle of the night alarm. He is so tiny that he might take a little longer than a larger pup would to be able to make a full night...but it will come.

Hope last night went well.

Took him out around 10:45pm for a quick pee. (he seemed confused as to why I was waking him). Also out at 1am, another quick pee & right back to bed. Dry crate this morning at 5:30!

On the downside - 5 minutes after eating breakfast we turned out backs for a moment & there was a tiny poo on the floor. Since that was from last night's supper I'm not surprised he couldn't hold it. About 15 minutes after that hubby saw him looking for a spot, took him out & another poo! At least the second one was on the expected schedule.

I have never tried to housebreak anything this tiny before - going to be an adventure!

I might try that tonight. I usually am up late at night, and up by 5:30am - adding a 1am "up" to that is kinda tough on this ol' body. lol

I just feel bad for Baker & don't want him to have to pee in his crate. His bladder must be about the size of a grape. :)
