Canoeing

I love the handle. When I've seen dogs wearing a life vest never seen one with a handle and honestly it makes so much sense, you want the option to grab and pull them out if necessary.
 
The reason I am looking at this one is it has a handle and it also has the D ring. I want her to be as comfortable as possible. I am very hesitant to use a collar/leash combo while on the boat for a chance she does fall in and the leash were to go with her and get caught on something. I didn't want her to have a harness on underneath so I could keep the leash on her either. I feel that would make her very uncomfortable. So this looks good so far. I just wish there were more reviews. I am still looking further into it.

I ended up buying an outward hound one. It will be shipped tomorrow! I chose this for the fact that there is a little piece that helps keep her head above the water rather than the D ring. Safety before luxury. I will just have to use a harness and hope she is okay with it. We have a pool so I will be testing it this weekend. And of course there will be pictures!

This is the one I saw and I was like.. what? So weird looking. I think you went with the right choice! Outward Hound have been a popular choice and very good quality. I have products other than a life jacket, and I've always been happy with them.

We keep a harness on under Honey's life Jacket, and it doesn't seem to bother her any, and it gives me the ability pull her back to the boat if she has another goal in mind, or gets turned around after splashing in, we usually take her on a lake near us, where it's not to difficult to stay in one spot or turn around for her, but if you're on a river or creek there's going to be enough flow that it could be difficult to stay close. Honey's current life jacket has a handle, and it's a life saver. We took her kayaking on a small lake once without a life jacket (it was small enough that we knew she could easily reach the shore) and she kept going back and forth between my husband and I, she was confused as to which one she should try to reach. When she eventually did decide she was getting back onto my kayak immediately please, getting her back up was awful. I had to hold her under her arm and she was so heavy all wet. Luckily I had the yoga mat strapped to the top of my kayak so she had some grip and could help lift herself...

We are going to be canoeing on a creek. So a little less controlled.
 
As promised, here are some pictures of her with the life jacket. Works pretty well. Kept her head above the water and she didn't look like she had to struggle. Just swam around fine in the pool. Now obviously it would be different in a emergency, but it is working good so far.
