Diarrhea: Go to vet or wait it out?

Finally he's lying down. That makes me feel a little better. Thankfully the vomit doesn't have blood in it. I thought it was poop, but I finally smelled it and it's vomit. :ick That means he vomited a bit earlier too.

I guess I'll be taking Koji with me, just in case.

This sounds very similar to when my dog had a stomach virus a few years ago. She refused food (only time in her life she has done this), bloody diarrhea, vomiting and lethargic. She needed fluids, meds for vomiting and diarrhea.

I did what Mellie suggested, I first took her to an emergency vet. They gave her some meds, but it only helped a little. She got worse over night. First thing in the morning, I brought her to my vet. I got her there an hour before the vet arrived, so they put her on fluids until the vet came in.

Will be thinking of Miko today. keep us updated.

Poor Miko! I'm sorry to hear he's gotten worse. I hope the vet was able to sort it out. Please let us know when you can.

Been down this road with my guys when they got older. Hoping for a positive update on his condition :fl

Poor Miko. :( I'm glad you took him to the vet; that's what I'd have done in this case. I'll check back for an update on him.

Update:

Well, by the time I got dressed, Miko was out cold, sleeping finally. I talked to a woman that worked there, we both agreed to let him sleep and see what happens later in the day. He finally woke up about an hour ago, walked around a bit, but no pooping, and then he went back to sleep. He's been off/on sleeping so I have been keeping an eye on him.

The woman I spoke to just now, talked to the vet earlier, to make sure we're all on the same page. I'm going to give him some food and see what happens. If it upsets his stomach, I'm going to the vet this afternoon. Surprisingly, they're not overly concerned with his diarrhea being reddish brown.

On the upside, they have been nothing but wonderful. Keeping me up to date on if the vet can see him during an appointment or if I'd have to admit him (vet had surgeries today, no appts, but two were cancelled so they called).

I still have yet to figure out what could have upset his stomach. I haven't started anything new last night. The only new thing started a few days ago and you'd think you'd see a faster reaction.

I'll keep you posted after he gets some food in him. That will tell us how irritated his stomach is or isn't. Otherwise, he's just exhausted. He was up from about 2-7am and that's rare for him to be up that long.

went through this once with gavin when he was a pup.
We did go to emergency vet.
they gave him fluids and an anti-vomiting drug.
Now I give him Pepcid A/C whenever he vomits and it really works wonders. he almost never throws up again after I give it to him.

I did buy pedialyte if we went through it again, but have never needed it.

Diarrhea just happens for gavin..he has a sensitive tummy. But the watery stuff is bad news..we get mostly just soft serve.
He has learned to love pumpkin, yams, rice, chicken, and baby food :D
Glad Miko is feeling better :D

Thanks for the update - I have been thinking about him and glad you're in touch with the vet. Hopefully this just goes away!
